GONE
Thought I would post these here to see if there are any collectors who can truly appreciate these rare pieces. Any additional or updated information would be greatly appreciated.
Rare Tower & Lyon Thumbcuffs from early 1900's, belonged to my friends father (my friend is 76) so they are quite old.
They are solid, heavy and in excellent shape and working order, open and close smoothly.
These have been appraised anywhere from $500-$1500 and are extremely rare, so don't show up often.
I did some research but I know nothing about them except the original keys were misplaced so a set was re-made; Therefore are not original.
Info:
Tower Lyon Thumbcuffs. In addition to their popular handcuffs and leg irons the Tower & Lyon Corporation also patented a thumbcuff in 1909. The Tower Lyon thumbcuff has a unique design quite unlike the much more common Gill design that appeared twenty years later.
The Tower Lyon thumb cuff has two "U" shaped shackles that fit into a central lock case. Both the shackles and the lock case are serrated to better hold the thumbs.
Next up is something really cool, and I might just have to keep it: Cast Iron knuckles from the same old antique collection. I found some similar ones online referencing the Civil War. They are heavy, nicely made and in excellent shape for their age with a nice patina and feel, plus have a cool Spade shape in the middle that make them desirable.
Age and maker unknown
