They might have... and then again maybe not. The Roadshow has been busted in years past for "planting" items on the show. The case I remember had to do with a confederate cavalry saber that had supposedly been used for chopping watermelons.
 
There was a Pipehawk on Ebay a number of years ago, an Auction company had it listed and linked to Ebay. It was apparently heavily documented as belonging to Pocahontis's husband John Rolfe. It was in mint condition, silver banded with an inlaid plaque with his name engraved. I believe it went for over $200,000.00. When I saw it on Ebay it was sitting at $175,000.00 many days prior to the sale date.

Antiques roadshow has certainly played some games but a friend of mine used to do most of the Native pieces and I can assure you that he knows his stuff. However Don Ellis is no longer with the show.
