Well...lost my sunlight due to Rain!! What the heck..rain!...ahh again what can I say but this was and excellent sharked goody! The walnut handle M43 is perfect with the wood being on the same level as the bolster, the bolster welds are excellent and the blade is nice and light...So what am I missing oh ya a Neem wood handled M43...

Absolutely beautiful!

Last communication I had with Yangdu indicated she has a source for elk antler, so you still need a whitetail-handled one.

Very nice and beautifully depicted.

Beautiful photos. But I am perplexed; I thought you couldn't get a traditional bolster, gently curved handle, pointed blade and a nice light weight with HI? I was told you could not....

..just because....words are on screen....doesn't make them......true. Must come back to Light, must come back....just wait one moment...gotta take my HI KHUK WITH ME.

What are the weights on those, anyway?
Everyone loves the broad leaf blades. They are simply amazing. Three of them together really brings it out.

The M43 is one of those khuks. It's not perfect, but something about the combination of handle, blade shape and balance tells me that it's a step in the right direction. I wanted one for the longest time and it never seemed to happen; then, one found me in Ohio via another forumite. (He knows who he is and he knows that he has my thanks.) It's not the first in my lineup but it gets used frequently and it would be one of the last to go.

But what do I like more than the M43? An antler-handled M43, of course. And if I can't have one of those? Beautiful pics are certainly better than nothing.

Good stuff, Sweet. You have talent with that camera. It looks like the antler one has a nice fat handle on it. How does it swing?

Hey Munk I need a new scale (going digital as soon as I find a good one) so I just use Yangdu's posting of the weights of the 2 M43's

Satori, thanks. Its all in the camera, a discontiued Sony F717..the antler handle is a little fat but I have big hands so it still feels good, swings great but not as great as the walnut, this one is super great :D in the swinging dept. no cutting yet, but as soon as I get some stuffs to cut with it will be done!

Aardvark, the antler is a beauty but I like the walnut the best, one of my favorite wood...The deck is called Mangaris Red Balau, beautiful stuff and cheaper than Redwood! A few links on this stuff

I thought we could get over simon making some stupid comments. The MKII/M45 are my favorite kuks. I'm still want to see a cutting contest of a HI one against the origonal.

these things can cut

Man alive, those are great shots Sweet.

I swear, the knives have never been better than what we've been seeing recently- the Movie Model I got last month is flawless in every way.

Could be the UB. :D

I'll bet that the Red Balau would make nice khuk handles, too.

Thanks for the links.

Andy L;
You might be surprised; the WWl Tora I have cuts very well.

I've kinda given up comparing cutting abilities- you have to find apples and apples to compare. A thinner edge profile works great as long as too much mass or weight is not behind it, in which case it will stick. And it matters if the edge is true convex or Saber grind, and what length the khuk is.

I don't think there is any single 'best'. The new 18" 28 oz villager I have cuts better than many in the same class, and I really don't know why. It matters too, what you are cutting. The Villager so far has had nice green wood, in which it does very well. Switching to resin hardened dead pine, knotty and tough, the grain fine and twisted by severe cold and wind, is another story.

I love that Walnut! The handle also looks slightly longer, which would be good. I have two M43's, a Saatisal one similar to yours, and a horn one. Both have great blades and disappointing handles. I need to try again one of these days.

I have no doubt about the Tora, I'm sure your aware I do like the tora kukri, for the models that are repoductions of british military ones maybe more so then HI kukri but I have limit experience of both.
What I want to know is weather the new kukri being produced by HI and Tora stand up any better then a ones they are a repoduction of. Has edge holding improved for example?

I'm not so sure

I'll bet it would make a killer self bow too!!!! :D

Mechanical Properties:
  • Bending strength – High
  • Crushing strength – High
  • Resistance to shock loads – High
  • Stiffness – High
  • Steam bending classification – Moderate

Is there a comparitive review between this and the model it is a repoduction of? I seem to remember comments that the origonals weren't as good but haven't found out how this is so. Do people use their older kukri or just leave it to the modern ones

Tom...you know Hollow can deliver tough wood. There is no reason we can't do full side by side comparisons of any or all khukuri brought to the MWKK.

Simon is, of course, welcome to attend.
