I was recently asked to completely re-do this knife and sheath found in the road-side garbage. The request was simple.... " make me a nice knife". These were perfectly fine knives and the blade was still in descent condition. I wanted to stay with materials similar to the original, but I didn't have any thin brass to use for the spacers, so I used copper. As well, I wasn't to fond of the aluminum pommel, so that went in the garbage. Similar story with the original guard as I wanted something a bit more substantial.
So, this is what I came up with:
Anton Wingen "Othello" Re-do
Blade: Factory blade with original aged patina on the flats, reground bevels and clip with 800 grit hand sanded finish.
Handle: Whitetail deer crowned antler taper with ebony and forged copper spacers, ¼” peened copper pin and an antler bolt plug. Forged mild steel guard with minimal file work and an 800 grit finish.
Sheath: 5-6 oz. veg tanned leather with minimal tooling, full welt and polished natural edges. Laced belt loop harness with hand turned antler bead and forged copper tag with maker’s mark. This sheath has a buffed Mink Oil finish.
