Hey all,
Been making knives for a while now. I was making a knife today and was normalizing it and did what I've done the past couple of knifes I've made, without thinking about it lay'ed it on my anvil. even when I want to take a break and get a bite to eat I lay my hot work on my anvil. Should I do this? Is it bad for the anvil? Will the anvil suck to much heat out of the blade when normalizing and make it almost like a hardening? I've heard a fire brick works well for laying you blade on.

It won't hurt your anvil. If you are normalizing it I'd say use the fire bricks, that's what I use. In fact I'm making a new forge and stand and it has a shelf on the side that I can set the blades on when normalizing.
No problem laying your work on the anvil while taking a break, especially if it's only a knife blade.

One side will cool faster than the other and perhaps cause warping.
