Anvil age?

I would like to know when my Vulcan 10 was made. I have seen one with a 40 on the heel described as manufactured in 1940. Mine has no markings on the heel, but a faint 78 on the base below the 10. Could this have been the date code and location for 1878?

I think perhaps you have an early Vulcan.
