I found this Anvil in a friends machine shop. It doesn't appear to have ever been used. It has 100 printed on one foot.

I found this vise laying in some dirt behind a shed. I would call it a slide vise. When you pull the handle to the left or right it locks the jaws to the work. Center position allows you to slide the jaws to the object. The only markings are "182" on the body and 4 1/2 on the handle.

Thanks for any help you can give.

That anvil looks pristine. Very nice. I dont know enough about anvils to give ya the best opinion so Ill give my less then good one.

If you look at the emblem on the side you should be able to make out what it is. I initially thought maybe its the fisher eagle which would make that a super great anvil. But I am not sure from the pic and I dont know enough to determine from other aspects of the anvil. Arm and hammer, and the vulcans also had emblem markings on the side but each was pretty destinctive so pretty easy if you can read it.

Try the guys over at iforgeiron, com they could probably tell right off the bat.

Sorry no help with the vise but looks like a cool design.

OK Ill go with about 90% sure its a fisher from the picture. I bet a wire brush and a little research will tell ya everything ya need to know. I would grab that guy if you have a chance, a prestine guy like that is hard to find and will disappear very quickly

Thanks Quint,
I'm trying to get him to let it go as he will never use it. Any idea what it is worth?
I posted it on IForgeIron also.

Thanks for the help

Yes. That's a Fisher. 100% sure. I've got two. There also is often a date on the end of the body under the heel.

I think they are the best anvil. Both of mine have 90% rebound and are a pleasure to use.

Cool vise. No help for you there.

Its hard to say, depends on area alot. In my area they usually go for about $3-4 a pound. Both of the ones I bought I managed to get for about $1.50 a pound but they werent in as good a shape as that one. I am guessing the guys at iforge will tell ya 2-4 a pound. Personally I would offer 200 for it but be ready to pay more. Careful with ebay pricing as they are usually grossly inflated.

$100 and you stole it. $200 is a good price. $300 reasonable. $400 I'd cry and hand over the cash. $500 is still okay for THAT Fisher. It's clean and "collectible". At $600 I'd have to let it pass because my pockets aren't deep enough though I'm not sure I wouldn't regret passing on it later.

It's on the light side for an anvil for heavy work but great for knives.

That does look nice, but if he doesn't sell, don't worry. If you want to come out to the Shenendoah Valley, you can still find some very good deals on anvils, forges, and just about anything you want. They have farm auctions all over every summer, and usually have all kinds of goodies.

Hi David,
Yeah he is a really cool guy and I don't want to push.
I'll come out this summer if I don't get something sooner.
Keith says hello.

Work hard on him Eric!

I have used the same model Norris-Fisher for several years and still love it for blade and tool work. They are quieter than most and have great rebound considering their design. The one pictured is in stellar condition - particularly the edges. If hardware is scarce in your area go after it with up to $350 in your pocket. I paid about half that for mine and it's in almost the fine condition all around as this one.

Good luck and no regrets!
Andy
