A friend asked if I could identify the make of this anvil. I'm not sure but I think this is the only photo he has. Just by the looks of it it looks a whole lot like my Made in Sweden anvil. As far as size goes I'd say its 120 to 150 pounds. It looks to be a fine anvil to me. I just took a picture of my Swedish anvil so we had something to compare it to. Mine is the bottom one. The other anvil appears to be much larger than mine. Mine is either 110 or 120 pounds. I got it mainly for doing forging demo's.

Man, that's clean Ray!
Possibly a Trenton. I sure like the looks of that stand also.

My other anvil is a Trenton. The waist on my Trenton is wrought iron and doesn't look a thing like this anvil. The little bit I know about my Made in Sweden anvil is they are cast steel. Its also got the real sharp/crisp edges like this one has below.

Ray most of the london pattern anvils look similar to that one. It looks like I can see the seam of the tool steel plate on that one. if that is the case then it is a wrought iron base etc. can you get a close up of the other side and of the foot under the horn?

Bill, I just got the one photo from my friend. If there were more photo's it would sure be a lot easier to identify.

Ray, Can you have him look at the side away from the picture and see if there are any letters or numbers? the same with the front of the foot under the horn.

Hey Ray,

I just acquired an old Swedish anvil. The only way I could make out the makers mark on it was to rub some chalk into the side of it where the stamp should be and then dust off the surface leaving the chalk in the lettering. It was amaizing what popped out as far as letters and numbers. The other clue for my anvil was a single square handling hole under the heel. Has your friend tried chalk or even flour rubbing to see if anything shows up? Oh, one more thing with my anvil was a flat step on the feet similar to a peter wright anvil. I can't tell for sure from the picture if there is a step. Probably becuase i'm looking at it on my phone instead of a comuter screen. Any way, if your friend can do the rub, check for handling holes, does the base have an oval or hour glass depression on the bottom, etc.these are all clues as to it's manufacture. And as "Master" Burke asked ;)... Are there any numbers or letters on or around the feet/base?

Thanks,
Rick
