Hard to tell what brand it is, but it appears to be in good condition. If it is what it seems to be, the price is very good.

There is a reference to this type of anvil on anvilfire. The vanadium anvils were much more expensive than the standard anvils. I am having internet troubles this morning, so searching for the reference wasn't working well. I would buy it. (I know very little about anvils so take this with a grain of salt.)

edit: tatoodfreak found the page I was looking at.

If it's a good size for you, 3/lb isn't bad at all.
You can compare to new anvils at Centaur Forge's website or many others.

Buy it with confidence. That's a great size and a fair price for the quality condition.

Looks like a good deal. Make sure though to bring along a large ball bearing or at least a forging hammer to test the rebound. Even a quality anvil will sometimes have a soft face, due to fire or some such. You want the ball or hammer to return at least 50% from impact, 80% is very good.

What everyone else said... Ball bearing is a must! I've seen a few of these lurking around the nets and my understanding is that they are cast steel with a high vanadium content... Hence the casting marks proud of the anvil surface. IICRC they made this particular anvil in only a couple of different weights and sold them through Sears (or similar chain)...
