nope, too late. There are 2 anvil collectors in my area who snap up every anvil that doesnt look like it has been drug down a gravel road behind a truck for 10 miles. I've got a call into the guy that has it now and waiting to see what his price is.
Take a look at that photo. See how close the face is to the cut shelf??? That indicates the anvil has been re-faced. There may be a lot of the hard steel gone.
Look at this photo of a similar Vulcan. http://www.iforgeiron.com/uploads/807/380b_3.jpg
You can see the weld line on the side showing how thick the top plate is, and see how much higher the face is over the cut shelf.
In March, I bought a WW1 Naval Ship's Vulcan 75# anvil that was re-faced nearly flush with the cut shelf. I paid $75 for it. As long as I do the more gentle work on it, like bevels, it should be fine. If I was to draw out some round stock, it would probably start to swayback.
Here in Virginia we have a LOT of farm auctions. I've got a lot of blacksmithing equipment, including my anvil, at an auction for a really gtreat price. Might be something to look into.
