I have yet another question for you.

Just yesterday I went over to Nashville to visit a nice fellow with a couple of anvils to sell cheap. When I got there he had a 100lb Columbian and a 150lb mousehole. I ended up taking the Columbian because it had a nicer face and an exceptional ring and rebound.

BTW< he still has the mousehole if anyone wants it, just PM me.

The face is really good and flat but the edges have a few small chips (.100 or so) that I'd rather not be there. So, can I run an endmill around it and just reface the edges? I realize it's work hardened but being a machinist I have access to whatever cutting tools and equipment I need. I suppose the bigger question is, would refacing it be worth the effort?

I resurfaced my fisher with an angle grinder and did the edges with a 5" stone. But I guess if you have the sweet tools you could try it.

Angle grinders are your friend for this stuff. That said, chips of that size are hardly worth worrying about in a lot of shops. If you need to fill in any chips, gaps, etc. preheat a bit and weld in some hardfacing rod and the grind it down flat. use a flap wheel for final cleanup.

Let's see some pics of this new anvil!
