Anvil Ring/Ping is a thing of the past! The "Dunce Cap" Ring Suppressor...

There's a type of hammer that is filled with lead shot !! It doesn't rebound .Use one of those and drill out and fill your anvil with lead shot also ! You'll hear every whisper the steel makes !

It's called a dead-blow hammer. Great for a large mallet or sledge... not so good for forging.:p

Also, try forging in a room filled with packing peanuts and marshmellows.

Thats a cool idea. I use the horn a lot though. I tried mounting the anvil on rubber but it didn't seem to make a difference. I only recently wrapped chain around the anvil and i was pleased that it didn't ring. I love it when things work. I was wondering it chain would work, now i know that it does. I also have the anvil mounted on a solid wooden base.

Strategically placed magnets help as well. Put one up under the horn as high as you can without getting in the way.

Mine doesn't really ring too bad, but it's mounted in a barrel of sand.

That's really cool. I just built a new stand for a 125lb Kohlswa anvil. I used a thick base of silicone caulk underneath and it helped a lot too.

I know that cap kept me quiet through elementary school... will have to try it on the anvil.
