Anvils and such

Honestly, shipping would most likely be cost prohibitive anyway

This was my first thought. One maker I know pretty well goes to farm auctions occasionally, and will pick up an anvil if it is something that tickles his fancy, but they go home with him in the back of his old Ford....not boxed up and shipped to his address. That seems like it’d be more trouble than it’s worth.

Dumping grounds for 200+ year old history. Yes my mistake carry on.

200+ year old history that means a lot to you, not necessarily others. Anyway, sounds like you won't be sticking around, which is a shame.

FWIW, I just did a quick search on EB and they are asking A LOT for "old" 200-600# anvils. Selling prices are likely less but still a lot of $ for a hunk of iron/steel. And that doesn't even include the cost of shipping and/or pickup.

I'm a fan of "Forged in Fire" and, if I were to consider setting up a forge at my house (which isn't happening), I'd certainly be in the market for an anvil and the blacksmith's hammer/tool set that I also saw on EB for over $1k. And that doesn't include the steel, the forge, the grinder, the hydraulic press, power hammer and other toys I'd like to have in my blade making shop.

Another expensive "hobby" that I can certainly do without and I'm much better off just buying the knives from people who already have the equipment and know how to make them. LOL! ;)
