They're everywhere. They're Chinese, 110#, 'hardened steel' anvils.

Are these decent? They're cheap enough to make me hesitant.

I'm tired of using a cast iron anvil and can't find anything suitable.

I knew it.

Oh I am so frustrated with anvil hunting.

Thanks bro!

Andy, I bought a 125 lbs Russian anvil ($250)that has the diagonal hardy hole over a year and a half ago. The milling marks on the face only took about 45 minutes to clean up and it has worked fine for me so far. I make all of my own hardies so it's doesn't matter which way the hole is oriented.

It's not a Trenton, Nimba or a peddinghaus but it is all the anvil I will need for a long time. At the time it was the only one I could afford and I still do not regret it. I have hammered on it for several hundred hours and it is still in good shape. My knives still come out straight and any clean up is because of my hammering not the anvil face.

Maybe someday I will upgrade to a heavier one but I am in no rush to do so. I will not get rid of this one even when I do upgrade.
