Any 120 Fans Out There?

I used the 120, 110 combo as my two boys "Buck starter set" a few Christmases ago.

I always wanted one growing up. So I got a pair for me too.

Honestly, they have not seen much use.

I tend to have many kives camping, and usually even bigger...

I have a 119 and a 120 and both are really nice knives. I didn’t get them as my primary hunting knives mainly because I don’t need a hunting knife that big. A 117 small special at 4.5 inches is a good all around size for small/medium to big game hunting afield in this part of the world. I suppose the extra large game in Alaska like brown bear and moose they might be better suited but I haven’t hunted up there yet so I can’t validate that.
Mainly I got the larger knives for in camp butchering and slicing cuts of meat even at home in the kitchen they are so nice to use.
I guess if I went pig hunting and needed to stick a pig they’d come in handy but around here there aren’t any wild piggies. Lol.
I don’t know for sure but I think they were first designed as a fighting knife back in WW I and II. And probably excelled in that regard.
I used my 119 a couple decades ago to field dress a moose on the shore of Ootsa Lsake, and while it did fine a shorter blade like the CS Master Hunter would have been handier.

I have and use both. The 120 is kind of a spoiler for me. I expected the extra length might make it a bit clumsy in use. However both knives are exceptionally nimble and perform the same tasks equaly well.
The 120 gets more use on large chunks of meat though. Such as whole crossrib sections of beef.

I usually carry my Randall model 1 in that sheath and wanted to see if a 120 would fit.

The reason? They are cheap, they are good sheaths, that don’t rattle. I like the way they hang on my belt.

I used a model 120 while processing a large sow (460 lbs.), from skinning to quartering and boning. It's a lot of knife. Inside the cavity you had to watch for room to make cuts.
But outside it worked nice. I did not see much of a problem using that large blade to get it done. It was nice to have the length at times. For me something in the 5" range would be the best of both tools. DM
