What's up guys In about a month or so Im going to treat myself to a new knife. I am willing to dish out $400 at most since I don't have much money now that I am a freshman in college. Just no fixed blades and I am looking for a blade that is 3.5 to 4 inches. I live in New York so I can't carry autos and can't go over 4 inches. I am also not that big of a fan of the Umnumzan but is the Sebenza worth it or any better suggestions?

Though it is a smaller blade than you listed, take a look at the Brous Blades Silent Soldier flippers. It's been my grail of sort, and I just got one! The ergonomics are fantastic, with numerous grip, even with my large hands. It is easily my favorite knife now.

Oh yea I completely forgot about brows blades. What do you think of the mini division or t4? The silent soldier might be a little too small of a blade for my liking. But congrats on getting your grail man enjoy it!

You don't have to pay that much.
Try a Bucklite or a KA-BAR Dozier Lightweight.

Thanks! I haven't handled the Mini Division or T4 unfortunately, though I'm sure someone will come along here to who has. I will also second the 710 M390 suggestion; I recently got one of these sprints, and it is a phenomenal knife, especially for the cost of it.

William henry e6 or e10 of you aren't going to get a Sebenza.

Also, try to find a zt0801cf

I disagree about the Sebenza. Its ok but there are plenty of other knives in that range that are as nice. As a freshmen in college, get a cheaper knife and use the remainder for something else I have had sebenzas and other brands as well, they are nice, but not needed by any means. As a college freshmen $400 is a chunk to spend on a knife regardless of anything fora student. Spend a c note at most and save the rest, you'll have a better time :)

Sebenza would be my first choice. Spyderco southard. Get some custom scales for it. Zt 0562 are out, 390 steel is on it's way as well with the 0562. Lots of choices.

I'm a huge CRK fan, but as a freshman in college I cannot recommend you get a Sebenza. Get yourself something nice for 1/2 or 1/4 of that and save the rest for the inevitable unexpected expenses that are going to surprise you. A nice ZT, Spyderco, or Benchmade will serve you just as well as a CRK until you have a little more disposable income.

Agreed. You're a freshman in college. Go with something more affordable, leaves more money to spend on other items. I know that's what I would have done.

Lionsteel SR1-Ti or TiSpine, maybe a CF TM-1. Sacha Thiel Officer midtech, anything from Fantoni, BM 940-1. My favorite thing to do is hit Arizona Customs and search in my price range. Never know what they'll have.

College freshman or not, money's a relative thing and sometimes conventional wisdom doesn't apply. If you're set on a $300 to $400 knife, by all means; Buy the best you can. I'd say a Sebenza is certainly worth it. I posted a 'visitor message' for you on your profile page, of a YouTube video that'll present a case for it better than I could... which isn't to say you should buy one, only that it's worth the price of admission. I've owned a few Sebenzas (but none in my inventory currently). I'm not a fanboy, but I am an appreciative enthusiast. Some folks like Striders (SnG, SMF). Great ergo's... better than CRK? They're different; and I think better ergos, but I wouldn't opine they're better overall. Best to do your homework. Something not-so-common from as fine a gentleman as there is, and also in your selected range is The Beast from Three Sisters Forge. You've a lot of nice possibilities to consider. Good luck with it!

I'd save the Seb, WH, or Strider purchase for that first,"I got a real job" paycheck and get a nice $100ish folder for now. I'd recommend a Lionsteel Opera.

When I was a sophomore in college I got a sebenza (had to work a lot for it of course). But then again I did still have a lot of funds left over for other priorities. I'd say get the sebenza if you can really afford it; meaning, you won't go broke after the purchase. If 300-400 is all you got, don't get it. You'll need the money for lots of drinks I mean textbooks... :) BTW I'm in NY too, what school do you go to?

Sebenza. Lion Steel if you looking at beefy. DPx are also made by Lion Steel.

Start watching the exchange for ones on sale. Can get a good buy quite often if you've some patience.

I carry the Umnumzaan every day. But I also love my Sebenzas... If you get a Sebenza, be careful of your hand-size. The "small" grip is less than four inches long, and a Large hand-size needs a Large Sebenza, IMO.
You can any of these, in basic titanium slabs, for about $325 on the Exchange, in close to new condition. A "spa-job" will keep it new for you forever, from the company.
Umnumzaan on top, followed by large and small Sebenzas.

Strider SnG in anything other than S30V.
