Started the addiction 6 years ago with 45ACP (own 4), then 2 years ago with a 45LC, then last year I picked up 2 454 casulls- and Alaskan then a Pump 92 lever and 2 45/70s rifles. Well today, after thinking of it for about 6 months, and doing my taxes and receiving $2,000 more than I anticipated, figured I would spoil myself.. okay I do that alot, anyways, figured I would up the game a little higher and picked up a 8" 460 S&W.

Its just WOW. It will be out with me tomorrow at the range since I have a delivery with Best Buy in the morning for a new TV for the living room, and some furniture in the afternoon with a local company, figured I would just take off the rest of the day and go shooting. I actually have a few guns to shoot that I have picked up this year already, 2 22's, a 357, then the 460. I'm a little nervous, but I have shot one before at the range, a guy shot my Alaskan, I shot his 4" 460. Figured I would do the longer barrel... Gonna be a fun day tomorrow, but atleast I am not going blind into this, since he was kind enough to share with me back last May.

Incase some have never heard of the 460, its basically a long 454 Casull which is a long 45LC, as such, it is backwards compatible with both. Easier for me since I own all 3 now. One guy at the shop when buying it this afternoon goes... wow a 500, I said nope a 460, he said, why not man up and go all out... get the real thing!?! Guess he did not know that they are VERY similar, and the 460 has more flexibility in my case.

Took a shot of my 45 caliber options so you get the idea just how big this cartridge is. NICE! Left to right.

45 ACP, 45 long colt, 454 casull, 460 S&W, 45-70... which I only have a rifle for it now, but a coworker has a TC and 45-70 barrel that we are taking out in the summer, I'm gonna try it out in a handgun then.

Hope no one minds me sharing, but I'm just SO excited to take a few shots tomorrow, yup just a few, don't want to beat myself up too bad. There are plenty of Youtube videos in case you want to see more about it.

I have a chamber insert that permits firing a 45acp in a 45-70 chamber .It's for fun only of course because the .451'' acp wobbles down the barrel of the .458" 45-70 !! Both fine cartridges of course !

1911 fan here. I only have two as I'm more of a shooter than anything. I want to pick up a couple more though.

.45 ACP is my current favorite handgun cartridge. Those big, fat pills put a whompin' on anything they hit. Not too much recoil, but plenty of power. :D I have a Glock 21, a Sig P220, and a Kimber 1911. I haven't had a chance to shoot the Kimber yet, but I have high hopes. The Sig is a tack driver. One of these days I plan on picking up a S&W revolver chambered in .45 ACP, so I can use moon clips. Those things are a lot of fun.

Next to the 10mm Glock model 20, the .45acp Colt Combat Commander is my favorite pistol...

Only 45 I have is a Ruger Old Army. It's my first BP. It's pretty cool putting the loads together right on the spot. Here's a pic just after getting it dirty the first time. I'm still getting the hang of it, but it seems VERY accurate.

Step on up to the .500 S & W or .50 BMG..just kidding.

Own an American Arms derringer in .45 Colt, two (2) Vaquero Birdshead 3" in .45. a 45 Colt Marlin 1894 and a Marlin 1895 in 45-70, one(1) Kimber ProCarry and a Colt Combat Commander, both in .45 acp, of course.

If I'm going to pack BIG iron very far or very long it will be a rifle w/scope. I used to tote my 6" 629 when deer hunting in addition to my rifle..decided that was dumb..for me at least.

Congrats on the wise use of your tax refund.

Drool:(

You guys have no idea how blessed you are to be able to even own handguns
I live in Canada where handguns are FORBIDDEN! I can only drool over pictures. It's illegal to carry any weapon here for the purpose of self defense....Not even a pointy stick. And get this, this reasoning behind the law. If I carry a weapon for self defense that means I intend to use that weapon to harm another human being and there for it's illegal.

Who ever makes these laws must live in a cave 100 feet below ground with their heads up their asses. It just seems so detached from reality.

So guys...enjoy your right to bear arms...I wish I could.
And remember, When seconds count.... police are only minutes away.

I love both my 45s,

1911s are works of art, John Moses Browning was a pure genius.

And my Ruger Blackhawk is pretty nice too, very accurate.

One day, maybe, hopefully,

I'll get a 460

I love the 45 ACP cartridge, but it has too much recoil for me to enjoy shooting it at the range (I usually like to fire 100 rounds). Got rid of my 45s and 357s and now I have 9mms and 38s, which I enjoy more. Maybe that makes me a wussy, but that's okay. :)

a comment for new autoloader shooters... most malfunctions are magazine related, so buy quality mags... don't be tempted by gun show specials of dubious construction and design....extended mags or ones with a "tipping" follower (short rear bearing surface to the follower) may cause the top rounds to nose dive into the feed ramp.....you may find that certain bullet shapes are more reliable (ball) so if you are going to carry for self defense, make sure your specialty ammo feeds reliably

My carry piece is a .45 Para P10 in summer, P13 in winter. Besides those, I only have about 4 other 1911-type pistols.

I enjoy my 45's, but dont seem to shoot them as much as my 9mm's due to ammo cost. Sold my reloading stuff like an idiot several years ago.
Kimber is my favorite auto, but the S&W outshoots them all.

Agreed. 45 is fun, but eventually "Bang Bang" starts to sound like "Ching Ching". Especially if you're putting a couple hundred rounds through the 1911 every weekend.

This video shows the .460 perfectly!

I am a fan. Just don't have the funds to maintain shooting .45.
