Started the addiction 6 years ago with 45ACP (own 4), then 2 years ago with a 45LC, then last year I picked up 2 454 casulls- and Alaskan then a Pump 92 lever and 2 45/70s rifles. Well today, after thinking of it for about 6 months, and doing my taxes and receiving $2,000 more than I anticipated, figured I would spoil myself.. okay I do that alot, anyways, figured I would up the game a little higher and picked up a 8" 460 S&W.
Its just WOW. It will be out with me tomorrow at the range since I have a delivery with Best Buy in the morning for a new TV for the living room, and some furniture in the afternoon with a local company, figured I would just take off the rest of the day and go shooting. I actually have a few guns to shoot that I have picked up this year already, 2 22's, a 357, then the 460. I'm a little nervous, but I have shot one before at the range, a guy shot my Alaskan, I shot his 4" 460. Figured I would do the longer barrel... Gonna be a fun day tomorrow, but atleast I am not going blind into this, since he was kind enough to share with me back last May.
Incase some have never heard of the 460, its basically a long 454 Casull which is a long 45LC, as such, it is backwards compatible with both. Easier for me since I own all 3 now. One guy at the shop when buying it this afternoon goes... wow a 500, I said nope a 460, he said, why not man up and go all out... get the real thing!?! Guess he did not know that they are VERY similar, and the 460 has more flexibility in my case.
Took a shot of my 45 caliber options so you get the idea just how big this cartridge is. NICE! Left to right.
45 ACP, 45 long colt, 454 casull, 460 S&W, 45-70... which I only have a rifle for it now, but a coworker has a TC and 45-70 barrel that we are taking out in the summer, I'm gonna try it out in a handgun then.
Hope no one minds me sharing, but I'm just SO excited to take a few shots tomorrow, yup just a few, don't want to beat myself up too bad. There are plenty of Youtube videos in case you want to see more about it.
