Any 45 caliber fans out there?

Yup, love mine & love reloading for it. .45ACP with reloads can give sub 9mm recoil or blast a 255gr bullet downrange with a fireball that makes the Automag shooters cringe:eek:

You can get semi-wad-cutters to feed reliably in a 1911 but you have got to have the OAL just right and unless you are shooting Bullseye Matches it ain't worth the effort.

I'll 2nd Les Snyder's comments about Mag malfunctions. If you have more than 1 Mag label them. That way when they choke you can keep track if it is one particular mag or your loads. I finally had it with 1 mag at an IDPA match I threw it down range and shot at it like it was a pop-can (with a fresh mag) and I haven't had a mis-feed since.

While I appreciate the 1911, in all of its glory, I traded my AMT to step into technology newer than 100 years old :D

I've really enjoyed this thread as .45s are my favorite. I have a little story to share, too.

A couple years ago, I bought a Ruger Alaskan .454 Casull along with 8 boxes of .454 ammo.

Never did it occur to me that my old body and it's numerous injured parts might have trouble with this powerful combination.

But, being that we live in the woods I figured man, this would be the ideal defensive weapon/ammo combination for bears, coyotes and other four and two legged critters lookin for trouble.

Anyway, shortly I took the gun and ammo out for a test run. I shot only six rounds and that was about enough. I could hardly hold the gun steady for any more as my hands and arms were aching and trembling so badly. It felt as if a grenade had detonated in my hands.

Don't get me wrong though, I was exhilarated, this was great fun and I had a big smile on my face. But the powerful concussion was a little too much for me and I realized right then and there that I would be shooting no more .454.

All is not lost as the Alaskan also shoots .45 Colt which packs a pretty good wallup but is a lot more manageable. So that is what I will go with.

As a consequence though, I have 7 boxes of .454 sitting in my gun room and every time I see them I am reminded what an idiot I was.

I really do like the .45ACP. At one time recently I had 31 .45acp guns, carbines and revolvers, as wel as semi-auto pistols. I am down to 25 and will further reduce by 6 or 8 in the next two months. I have a CCP and frequntly carry a Kimber Tactical Ultra. That little joy is one of my faves.

I enjoy shooting my 2 1911s and G30SF but I'm not a hard core .45ACP fan or anything, it's just another caliber to shoot.

what knife is that???

I've got 2 45's!!!!!

I've been a big fan of the .45 ACP since I first started shooting. It's an American classic.

I did own a nice Kimber 1911, but traded it because I grew to dislike the safety. To me it was just one more thing to remember. YMMV. It was 100% reliable and extremely accurate. I wouldn't mind having another 1911 one day, but not necessarily for carry.

I've settled on the G21 as my primary .45 ACP pistol. However, the S&W M&P .45 ACP has been tempting me lately.

Have a DW CBOB and a SIG P245. I used to have a S-A 1911 Gov't Loaded SS.

I've gotta get another 1911 Gov't; to me it handles better than a 1911 Commander.

MY Taurus PT1911 and S&W M&P 45c with the Apex trigger/sear upgrade . Both are great shooters and the M&P has even been worked into the carry rotation, which I had not planned for it to do. I've been thinking about getting out of .45 lately but I just got 1K 200gr LSWC to load up. Still, I might sell off one or both before too long.

I've got a kimber custom eclipse II, shoot it more them the rest of my pistolas.

Love the .45 caliber cartridge in all it's forms. As for myself, I own 2 1911's. Both are made by Colt a 1998 CCO and a 2005 SCG.

Not to get off track here, but I have heard so much good stuff about Glocks that it would seem a no-brainer to get one.
I just can't get over the fact they are uglier than a baboon's a$$ though. :barf:
