Started in 1980 as a stereo salesman, in the final years of the mid-fi stereo stores. Finished in '96 as Technical Service manager for Jeff Rowland Design Group (ultra high end amp manufacturer). It took a couple of years after that to again enjoy listening to music. All I have left of the stupidly expensive system I had accumulated are the speakers (Parqagon Regents) and two complete cabling set-ups gifted me by the manufacturers. You can argue the relative merits of the esoteric bits and pieces, but the main incentive to buy a lot of these is pride of ownership. You know, like with expensive knives! I thought about this very subject this morning while I was trimming off stray threads on my jacket with my Sebenza.
