I don't know about the Swiss STG57 but, in answer to your original question, I have become a bayonet nut since Strider introduced their version at Blade
Well for starters there is a "V" stamped over the serial number...is that for Victorinox? The guard is stamped "KV146+"...wassat mean? Is the serial number(99295)in any way indicative of the year of manufacture? Also, the scabbard bares the following marks..."K9", "B over 3015 over 1", and "79" within a circle that resembles an analogue watch face. Approximate value? There is very little info out there on the web, most of what I found was not translated to english.
There is a StG 57 bayonet in Jantzen's book which has a "V" over a six-digit number. According to Jantzen it was manufactured for Chile. The illustration shows that the crossguard is of uniform thickness. The non-export version has a slight waist in the crossguard. There also seems to be a manufacturer's mark that looks like an F+ over a W. don't know maybe this stands for Waffenfabrik Neuhausen one of two manufacturers along with Wenger.
If it's the double edged model with the 9 1/2" blade it can be had from www.sportsmansguide.com for a mere $9.97 plus $5.99 shipping.
