Do you eat the mountain lions? If not why shoot and kill them?

Now back to bears....

uhm if you got some bear meat you don't want I don't hunt them but I do like eating them. The filet on some of the is as big as a round steak on a beef.

Joe Dirt,

Nice hijack. Please don't do it again. Unless you have anything relevent to add to the topic of the thread please refrain from injecting your views on hunting into it. Save it for your own thread.

I surely didn't hijack this thread. I just asked a simple question. Why is everyone so uptight when you ask a question.

Good grief.

In fact, you'll probably ban me for "mod sass" as I've seen you do to many others for no reason.

Nice work.

I've got half a mind to already. It's not that hard to understand. If you want to start an argument about the ethics of varmint hunting, start a new thread. And if you want to whine about how your freedom of speech is being repressed, start a new thread for that too.

I never ban for no reason and right now you're giving me reason to. I can probably find a number of things to ban you for Fisher of Men, aka, Joe Dirt, aka Flapjack.

If I've given you reason to then just go right ahead and use your Testosterone and ban me for asking a question. Ohhhh.....I bet you feel tough when you ban someone.....

You guys here at Bladeforums.com are waaaaay too touchy about simple bullshit. Get over yourself already and go worry about other things.

Where all the neighborhood cats were disappearing to... 7 new teryaki joints resturants in a 3 block radius... :barf:

okay... just kidding, but all the pigeons have been disappearing , too! :p

Now.. a real Q for the thread...

I have an opportunity to get a Guide Gun in 45-70; I don't 'plan' on hunting, but it's SS and I could keep it as the ultimate bug out gun... How would it do for some of the larger critters out here in the Northwest? It's smaller and lighter than my .308 Enfield, and newer... but is it any better ballistically, and terminally?

Thanks!

Joe,

Great gun....but......short mag tube means you only get 5 shots.

.45-.70 has BIG recoil and is expensive.

You are comparing the normal loading of .308 to .45-70 I assume? The .45-70 is about twice as heavy (165 gr VS 300 gr) and is slower/has less energy at muzzle and 100 yds, and more drop, BUT....45-70 is a MASSIVE round that was designed, I believe, to shoot buffalo.

That makes it a great short range big game round, and the Guide Gun was designed for Pro-guides in Alaska to tote around for those "special situations" like when a bear jumps out at you.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I haven't shot the 45-70 yet, so I was curious as to anyone elses view on it... I kinda expected huge kick, and I realize it's a short tube.. I guess I'm into longer range... So I'll probably give it a pass and stick with my surplus values...
Thanks!
