Any Bicycle Riders Out There?

I have given it a chance. I've had bottles fly by my ear, iron scrap tossed at me, and been run off the road. Inland Empire, CA, and never again. I was on a bike for all transportation for four years. Never again. Not unless I can shoot all motorists who attack me.
Bran, the Jamis XLT 2.0 was sold out last year by mid summer. I expect they made more of them this year but I wouldn't be expecting any sales on that model in September at the Bike Shop.
I found the last XC comp in Montana last summer, and it wouldn't have been there a week later.

IN case you're thinking Montana a small venue- it is, though Bozeman is chock full of rich kids wanting name bikes- but even a large clearing house in Las Vegas did not have the 2.0 by Summer's end.

Bruise, last year there were two cross country bikes by Jamis, one for 3000 bucks and one for 1400. Guess which one I got, and remember I sold two or three firearms to do it?

This year there are three cross countries-

I think my model got disk brakes this year.

If you want to read a review of my bike- it's the black and white XC one featured in the 2003 review segment on the Jamis site.

I got some kevlar tires- cactus proof, with better tread, because the whimpy ones on the bike were better suited for a track than cross country.

The frame is the 'Kinesium' one. Next year they'll change the name to "Harry" and my frame will be obsolete.

It's a better bike than I deserve. My old Jamus is no shock and chrome moly. What's interesing is it weighs about what the new one does.

Remember the mighty chiwawa, who's bark sends even the bravest
scurrying ... and I have heard it said that god protects idiots and drunks,
My secret is to wear a dunce cap and weave a lot.....

they are really nice i want some....we got this trail , in a state park,
FT. mtn, it will melt the rim brake pads off, no bs, I have done it
( and crashed horribly). Guys who do it regularly carry a spare set of pads, and probably better medical coverage, but i would like to have disk brakes and better medical coverage ,as well, come to think of it. The secret to going faster is being able to stop faster and that's without needing the additional medical coverage.

Bran- how much do those XLT 2.0's cost? 3000 bucks, isn't it, or more?

That's 30 khuks
even the firearm I plan on getting this summer is only about 5.5 khuks.

I remember the chiruwa but I'm pretty sure my bones don't have a lot of laha in em'.

I have priced one at $2100, which is a good price for such
a build.

The wheel set is sturdy and dependable, but heavy and slow, I think it will have to be upgraded to do any real racing. I have to use every advantage I can get I'm 46, have a desk job and in clydesdales , it's anyone over 200 lbs regardless of age. Those 21 year old guys are pretty darn fast, thank goodness most don't have the cash to buy better equipment. Of course the fact that they are fearless does help, they tend to hit a lot of trees, rocks,
ditches...etc and then the parts start falling off in showers.

being a heavier guy, most regular xc models just don't hold up, I have replace
every component on my stp300 with the exception of the rear shock and a lot of them in the first year( some in 6 months). I'm really torn, a custom build may save money in the long run. The xlt is really a free ride bike.....I need to ride one.....yeah its a lot of khuks but it also gives me a chance to use my khuk, I have already chopped everything I could possible chop in the
yard, In the long run there are some quality of life issues that are just worth the money, debt is good.... chopping is fun ( if i keep repeating it maybe I'll convince myself).

Where did you price a 2004 XLT 2.0 for 2100? Maybe my price of 3 is too high- I might be way off and remember it wrong because I never really looked seriously at the 2.0. I prefer the XC. The 2.0 is a more all around bike- downhill, jumps, performance. (though not a real downhill racer, no)

No jumping here.

Munk,

High end XC versions have more expensive, light weight components.
a lot of them with name brand recognition. That drives up the cost , Xc racers will typically drop a 3, 4 or 5 grand on a bike. Most
regular riders will not. I know guys to drop $700 to $1000 on wheelsets alone.
Jamis is a lower cost builder, but their bike at $3000 would cost you $4000 from another manufacturer( apples to apples). So their high end XC bikes still cost more.

Jamis wins awards for Value and good performance, not top performance.

most All -Mtn or or low end free ride bikes will cost less, they are built for durability so they have heavier components, and are about 5 to 10 pounds heavier than you higher end XC bikes. Note : no jumping in this catagory, bike built to jump also cost more.

The cost associated with the last 5 pound differance is exponential, The price
breaks and models and type of bikes are well thought out by the companies.

yeah I know it doesn't make sense but that is the way it is.

trade in and get an xlt2, it will cost less than upgrading your old bike,
That is the new lesson I have been learning lately.....They mark up aftermarket part more......the scum.

Bran- I'm well aware that professional riders have hand built bikes and that Jamis is simply a company that 'mass produces" a good value- better than most the other name brands that also mass produce.

I doubt very much I'm going to trade in my XC and buy up to a style of bike I do not want- the XLT 2.0 I've owned 4 MT bikes and ridden for 20 years. I got one of the first Jamis bikes they offered back in the late 80's.
I'm not going to spend 6 thousand dollars on a bike. I realize you pay exponentially for weight savings beyond a certain measure. The same is true for many other specialty items- like frequency response from high end stereos. I once found a set of speakers for 100,000 dollars.

I'm still wondering where you found a 2004 2.0 for 2100 At that price, I admit, my XC looks more vulnerable- until I remember the 2.0 will be passe in two years or so, and I'd have to sink another thousand or another to stay 'even' .

At least firearms hold their value.

I just checked several sites but they wouldn't publish prices.

Youre in Georgia? Then I presume that is the price-not the 3000. I think I had 3000 on the brain because the top of the line XC was 3000. You're telling me it would be better to the XLT 2.0?

As I remember, Brantoken, 1350 was about all I could muster last year, and that took all my money for six months and two gun sales to boot.

2100 might was well be 21000
No, I'm not selling my M14 to buy a bike!!!
