the only nice places to hike that i know of are the Salmon river state park and a local resivor with a tiny moutain/hill rock ledge kinda thing ill take pics some time. But i want a good place to test my survival Equipment beside the backyard

Based on your location tab, your in Meriden, CT. The Metacomet and Mattabeset trails run right by you. I have hiked both and they are very nice and you should have no problem practicing a few wilderness skills around them. The Tunix trail and Quinnipiac trail are also nearby, although I have not hiked either of these. You should be able to find trailheads and other information online although I get most of my information from a book called Connecticut Walk Book. Hope this is of some help.

I have attached two pictures to this post. One with all the trails from Connecticut and the other a zoomed in version around Meriden. Oh ya and Ragged Mountain is just north of you. This is a popular place for climbers.

Enjoy:

I have wanted to hit the quinpiac trail by sleeping giant for quite awhile now. I just haven't had the time. I have been messing around with the little trails by me. Suprisingly there are alot of interesting spots I found in the year I have been in CT. I know what you mean about practicing skills, I have had my fair share of looks while sitting on stump whittling wood for dead fall traps, and firemaking tools. Its real difficult to find a spot secluded enough to mess around with my khuk.

If you are out west, their are some pretty trails in kent that run through Macedonia state park. However I had run into alot of people over there, so leave the big blades at home.

i hike those all the time there a 30 second drive or 5 minute walk

Wait, I am confused. You say you hike these trails all the time but in your first post you say you don't really know of any trails and are asking for help locating some. Do these trails run through Salmon River State Park?? Not trying to be rude, just trying to clarify.

Also if you get strange looks doing things on these trails, just hike off the trail a quarter mile and you won't see anyone or more importantly people won't see you.

i kinda forgot what they were called:foot: but i think those trails are a mile long at most and arent realy to secluded. i want to see if i could hike that range beetween the Mattabeset trails and black pond. that would be a little longer and theres no trails!!! have you ever thought about doing something like that.

My stomping grounds lately have been the state land in Rhode Island bordering CT near Voluntown. I think it's called Arcadia Recreation Area? Lots of trails of all sizes, fishing, and plent of space. Not to crowded either.

I have never really considered that ridge. Sounds like fun tho:). If you can make the drive up to the start of the Metacomet trail just north of you, it goes all the way up to Massachussets and runs right through my neck of the woods.
