Greetings All,
any of you guys dealt with TrueSwords.com ? Thanks in advance:thumbup:

I can't comment on this company directly, they may have wonderful customer service or they may not, but if you are looking to buy a sword I would suggest shopping around a bit more. Any place that is selling anime stuff along with its swords tends to be a bit.... suspect...

Triton, my friend's looking to buy swords. What let you to believe that a place selling anime stuff is suspect? I'm just curious and terribly confused. Thanks. :)

One is always in danger when making blanket statements... it's of course possible that some anime / manga infested website somewhere is selling high quality Japanese (it's always Japanese) swords. However, in the main that is highly unlikely. Typically such sites are busy selling stainless steel "battle ready" 50 dollar wonders with the most gosh awful ito and fittings you've ever seen and we won't even talk about the nuance of blade geometry and so forth.

In my never to be humble opinion if your buddy truly wants a quality production Japanese sword he will go look at www.bugei.com. Yes I recognize that there are about 50 million other dealers selling various incarnations of chitanas out there, but the folks at Bugei have been at it the longest and they are selling a superior product. Why? I think it's because they are actually martial artists themselves with a long history of dealing with not only production but custom smiths. They are not just an internet storefront like so many of the others. I know I know, they are not as cheap as the others. I know I know that you have to wait on Bugei typically. Something to consider... although things can be artificially high priced they are almost never artificially low priced. You are not getting a "deal" on a high quality sword when you buy one of the various and sundry chitanas out there. You are getting what you pay for. You also shouldn't be asking why you have to wait on the Bugei guys... you should be asking why you didn't have to wait on the others...

Also in my never to be humble opinion if one is truly serious about Japanese swords the only way to go in the end is with a custom katana. Production stuff is fine as entry level, but in the end you will end up with the custom piece anyway. That's just the way it is.

<shrug> Take the opinions expressed above for what they cost you. Many people seem very happy with their chitanas. Making the compromises on quality and construction were worth it to them. However there is a certain level below which I don't know if it can even be called a sword... and that's typically what you find in comic book websites. :)

I just did a transaction with this company. I picked up a CRKT Hisshou. I was very satisfied with everything. All went smooth and had great communications with Jonathan, Evan and Alex at True Swords. Fast shipping and item was packed first class. Would deal with again.
