Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to snap a few pics of your E&E kits. How are you carrying them? Have you made any additions or removed anything you don't think you'd use?

Here is one of mine to start this off.
IMGP2311.jpg

I think most of that should be self explaintry except
the bundle of stuff in the top left cr. is a disposable poncho and a handfull of ziplock bags ( as water carriers)
White thing beside the wire saw is a tampon ( final filter, wound dressing, or smeared with lipbalm (between the Buck ultralite and the whistle) as a tinder.make sure your lipbalm is petroleum based not emu, goanna or yak grease.
Off colour thing the other side of the Buck is the ceramic stone from a SAK sos kit.
Pensil sharpener is a fantastic tinder maker instant paper thin shavings.

opps not only a double post but I thought I had aready delt with this.

The top left bundle is a disposable poncho and some ziplok lunch bags ( water carriers)
White thing near wire saw is a tampon ( final filter, wound dressing and tinder)
below that a pencil sharpener ( fantastic easy paper thin shavings)
Lip balm beside the whitsle add to the tampon, repeatedly had that combo burn for 5min+.
between the two knives is the ceramic sharpener from a Vic SAK S.O.S kit.
rest of that should be self explanitry.

Nice, complete kit.

What kind of bag is that?

It is a admin pouch in Australian desert cam.
With this water bottle set up.
waterbottleopen.jpg

and a decent knife most thngs are possible.
The piece of alloy under the spoon makes a loose lid for the cup and folds enough to get into the carrier. the red tin is a jelly fuel the small green tube is a Australian army match box 1per one man 24hr rat pack. what isn't in the pic is a ziplock bag in the bottom of the pouch which has teabag.sugar, and stock sachets.
This a pic of an older set up. I had for the survival/bushcraft course I run for a Local Army cadet unit ( 15=-17 yr old kids)
IMGP2739.jpg

the Knife in that is a BRKT Aurora the VIC SAk was the demo knife the kids are restricted to folders with a blade lenght under 4inch .
THe para cord loop has a small flint and a vial of cotton wool and vasoline. The object was to show they could do nearlly every thing with one smaller knife.
The other pouch is a bigger kit.
The pic of it laid out is a bit old I might see if I can get a chance to do a new one in the next day or so. Here are a couple old ones anyway.

Carl,

Are minor children under 18 years of age restricted to folders under four inches in blade length in Oz or is that your rule or what?

Don,
The law in my state ( Queensland) says it is an offence to carry a knife in public. But there are exemptions.
If you use a knife in the course of your job.
in the pursuit of a hobby or recreation ( fishing or hunting)
Uniformed mebers of the ( boy) Scout Ass. on a Scout activity.
A member of Scottish band in regailer.
A collection for display at fete or gathering.
A person may carry a swiss army knife or Pen knife for it's utility function.
The catch is it is illeagal. you have to prove you weren't commiting an offence as opposed to the presumed innocent untill proven guilty.Haveing said that I have carried a knife nearll every where since I was 10 but I don't conduct myself in such a fashion as to com to the attention of LEO's.
All state run schools have a zero tolerance of weapons in any shape or form.
It is ileagal to sell a knife to a person under 16.
At my work ( a camping shop) we only sell to 18+ unless a parent or guardian is standing beside them.
Scout policy is a folder but at the discresion of the Trrop leader.
Cadets nationaly have a less than 4inch ( actually it says 10cm) folder rule. The cadet unit I am with restricts to Corporal and above after a kids belongings were slashed last year.
My course does include safe use because some of these kids have never used a knife.
I also have veto on any style of knife I deem unsuitable ( or any kid that I deem is unsuitable, dangerous or a risk to others and/or themselves) Interesting because I an a civilian advisor not a unformed leader. Hasn't happened yet but It hangs over them
I push VIC Saks for private purchase. Cheap and suitable I also take a slection to the practical w'end for them to have a feel and use of.

Thanks for your generous comments fellas.
What you can't see in that pic of the stove is I had to cut out the base of the stove to allow the fuel can to fit.
Cupscanteenstove.jpg

The fuel in a tin was a new product. That is no longer available it was ethanol based and unfortunitly it dryed out after being opened.
So now I have tined candles.
Get a empty flat tin ( like boot polish or tobacco) cut a pice of corrogated cardboard to sit just below the level of the tin I try for a "W" shape. then fill it with melted candle wax let it set, put the lid back on and "Robert is your mothers brother" It is a cheap reuseable heat source.
I have them in many sizes.
hobo2.jpg

The more cardbord the higher the temp it burns ( more surface area for the "wick")
Carl

We don't use Tea lite candles in side kits here in Oz so much. At lot of places here for most the year the damm things will melt through your tin so they need to be able to be sealed up.
A pic from the year befoes course the kids carving trap trigger bits.

In this country there are big issuses with posting juveniles faces on the net so
Shelter building

Batoning with a SAK
IMGP2707.jpg

Commercial and improviesd water filters. Millbank filter on the left and a 2lt soda bottle with tampon cotton in the cap with a small hole drilled through it and filled with charcoal.

Fire building
IMGP2719.jpg

This another skill going by the wayside most national parks here. Have banned open fires. Quiet often during Summer we have total fire bans We had over 200 people killed by some of the worst bush fires in our history earlier this year. Kids don't have the oppertunies to "play" with fire I had growing up. I guess less accidents as well.

I did take some pics of the larger kit but there is something wrong with my card reader. Maybe I start a new thread when It gets sorted.
Sorry

I was tempted to take everything out for a pic but I'm not sure I'd ever get it all repacked in properly. This kit is just what I was hoping for. All the essentials packed into one compact, high quality package. I've been wanting to try to assemble one of my own but the guys at RAT have done it for me. And for less money then it would have cost for me to assemble everything myself. The pouch seems very sturdy, like the RC-5 sheath and allows a little bit of left over room for you to personalize your kit with a few other odds and ends. Off the top of my head I'm thinking of adding a small light and maybe a small Vic SAK, a Spyderco Ladybug, or some other small folder and some cash and a few quarters. Overall I'm very impressed!! Nice work Jeff and Mike!

I just added my Fallkniven U2 and my Peak Matterhorn. They fit perfectly :)

I also attached a paperclip to the two zippers for a little extra prevention against accidental opening.

Anyone know what the velcro loops on the back are intended for?

Got the card reader going at work.
IMGP3543.jpg

Gee that really isn't that clear is it.
Top left
Alloy Army mess tin
Swedish army folding cup ( actually it is the Coughlans version)
Petzl e-lite
Lip balm, tampon
Swiss tech folding pliers.
Thermos folding spoon, airline disposable toothbrush,
Inova 24/7, brass wire, pencil sharpener ( instant tinder) A loupe 10x magnifier,
fine Jig saw blade, roll of dental floss,
Metal match + scraper, two small ampules of saline, Provodine iodine swab
band aids.
Next row,
Survival bag, Poly prop cutting board, VIC SAK rucksak, Saftey pins, mini fishing kit, compressed wash cloth, commando wire saw, Roll trip wire,
bottom row,
The bag it all lives in, frenzle lens, sewing kit.
I have another light alloy dixie I'm gunna cut the base out of, to use as a lid for the main dixie up top and that will replace the cutting board/worksurface.
I have replaced the tea bags and salt etc. with another water proof container.
I have had a bad experiance where a stock cube got wet and then turned into a concentrated salt solution and rusted the crud out of every other metal thing in the kit.

One b'day ( 32 I think) After a bottle and a half of WildTurkey I slept like a baby ontop of the spare wheel in the back of a "cruiser' ute (Tray back toyota landcruiser) Slept well didn't wake up all that happy .
