Hi there,

Though I see any knife can be mushroom knife, and am owning Opinel No.8, but still want to add new elegant one to my collection (and also wanted the knife can be used some times).
I found Fontenille Pataud offers mushroom knife, but still wanted to check products from other brands.
Any recommendations to elegant mushroom knife please? The curve back shape is ideal.

Thanks!
D

Hi, I have two mushroom knives. One is a böker brand and the other is an Italian brand name mac. They're both pretty nice knives. They both have brushes for cleaning mushrooms. They have curved blades. The Mac is yellow and has a plastic-like handle. The handle of the boker is wooden.
Edit: They're not elegant of course :D
My recommendation: Old Bear mushroom knife. It looks cool, elegant and cheap.

Thanks, the Old Bear one looks really a good option!

Maserin sells mushroom knives. I don't care much for mushrooms but I do own 2 Maserin knives. I am impressed. A 405 Solar and an AM4.

GEC #47 Harvester make great mushroom knife, and elegant for sure! If you want it stainless, you could check for a Case Hawkbill

Thanks for recommend!
BTW, would you please share some experience: is the brush really useful in mushroom foraging?
I didn't do a lot mushroom foraging, but just sometimes, so wanted to ask some real experiences from veteran.

thanks... i didnt end up buying it although i liked it a lot (I gravitate to unique/different).

I dont have experience but you reminded me that when i lived in Montreal, i knew a mushroom farmer lol. too bad we lost touch as i am sure he would have some great advice for you.

I think any generic mushroom knife would serve you well. You are going to handle it with dirty hands, it will contact the ground with the blade quite often (so mirror polished finishes will not last long) and it can be lost easily... I also like nice things but sometimes it is not worth the risk of ruining/loosing them.

Most of the people I know that gather mushrooms just carry a serrated knife (like the Victorinox steak knives) and brush the extra dirt with the spine of the blade.

I must say I like the looks of the GEC #47 Harvester posted above!

I used to hunt mushrooms with the entire family as a kid ... 2 sisters and my parents. The first kid to find the first Boletus Edulis (Steinpilz) of the season would get a bar of chocolate :)

A SAK served me well. Plus, we would do other stuff on these excursions, I used the same knife for whittling, picnics, etc.

In any case, there are lots of very nice Hawkbills or Wharncliffes out there. Today, I'm carrying this, for instance:

You could also just carry a Kephart ? Or a Toenail ? Like this, the other day:

You can find expensive custom mushroom knives if you look hard enough. On the less expensive side of things take a look at the well designed and popular Opinel offering.

I got a Opinel mushroom knife with a brush on it and i just don't use it as much as my other knives... i carry a old shaving brush in my pack and find it more useful when needed. The brush is used mostly to prevent a lot of dirt in the bottom of your basket, you can also just cut the mushroom, bring it back to your home and clean it once there.

I really love a small fixed blade like this small puukko, i clip it to my backpack strap, faster to use

There are the other knives i use the most... i could also be any knife in the collection

Exactly:D, so i just wanted to have an relevant elegant one other than Opniel 8, into my collection, and when i need to take a great picture, (in case one day I find something like Bleeding Tooth), I take the knife out😁
