Any experience with Gerber folding Spade

How durable are they?
Is there anything better quality?

if your talking about the gerber gorge shovel its pretty nice.

its a bit heavy for trekking/backpacking, but its nice for long distance hikes where you setup base camp. definetly fun stuff. used it for moving hot coals from the fire, diggin latrines, and pegging down my tent.

all in all a handy tool but i'd try picking one up in store to feel the weight for yourself.

also there is a review on woodsmonkey.

cheers

I have a couple of the Cold Steel Spetznatz shovels and dont think they can be beat for their size and price. Only drawback is they dont fold. But it seems all the folding shovels I,ve seen fail do so at the folding joint.--KV

I have the Gerber NATO Spade, and whilst its no lightweight, you can be assured that it'll work as advertised and won't let you down when you need it.

Its a well designed and made tool, which given its small packed size, has a lot going for it, I'm really pleased with mine!

Every review I read (from soldiers, owners and reviewers) rated it highly.

I haven't used one but they feel like the proverbial tank. Which is to also say they are heavy.

I've been carrying a Cold Steel Spetznatz shovel for years and it's a solid performer. It's also fun to throw.
