Any experience with the Salient Arms BLK knife?

I'm not sure if everyone is familiar with Salient Arms, but they build/tune some incredibly expensive Glocks. It recently came to my attention they also "make" a knife (I say that because I'm not sure if its built in-house). I called them for more info and got this:

-Its a "custom" build (which could mean many things)
-440C Steel
-3.5" blade
-Griffon Ind kydex holster
-Some tacti-cool paracord

I like the looks and Griffon makes a great handgun holster, but the caveat is they want $500 for it and that doesn't include shipping. What do you guys think?

Considering making this my first high-end fixed blade. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cool looking knife, but in my opinion that is a steep price for not knowing who exactly made it, an unconfirmed steel, and a paracord handle.

Plenty of other makers and manufactures in that range where you would know exactly what you are getting.

Yeah, I'd need some more info before I pulled the trigger on that. For that kind of money you should be getting either something extremely special or rare, like a limited edition, or preferably both, and a cutting edge steel.

yeah for that price I would say definitely don't do it. you could get a custom fixed blade with a lot better steel at that price

Any information they don't give you is a liability, otherwise they would be using it as a selling point. $500? Yeah, absolutely not. No way in hell. Non. Nyet. Nein.

This forum is chalk full of very talented knife makers, many of whom would make exactly what you want for that kind of dap. By comparison, a Blackheart Pike is about the same size as that blade, but it costs less. It's a full custom in 3V with a honzukuri zero convex edge. I'd be absolutely shocked if the above knife came anywhere close to the performance of the Pike and that's just a single example. Take your money elsewhere.

Thanks for the input gentlemen.

Now, any suggestions for something similar? 3-3.75" fixed blade that would be suitable for EDC

ive been wanting a white river knives caper they also make a backpacker same model as the caper but with paracord instead of g10 handles.

Well, since I already mentioned it, I'll stick with the Blackheart Pike. They're even on sale right now.

Jim Skelton was supposed to tell us all about how the coating they use makes it worth $500. That video never surfaced.

Also for that price range check out Busse and kin, they have an excellent warranty. I personally would not pay 500 for the knife in question.

Don't quote me on it, but I believe Tracker Dan is tied to these blades. He makes the well-known Bloodshark. I agree though, 440C at 500$ is insane. I was able to find some info, but their site seems to have much less functionality now.

I saw it on a website I now recall but am unsure on posting rules. It's mostly a gun website. It seems to be unavailable now. For 500$ you can make like 20 of those. It's just a slab of 440C with a convex grind and a paracord wrap.

Sweet Lord the power of branding is unreal.

440c, paracord...$500

Don't do it bro!

It's not that it's a bad knife.

It just wayyyy overpriced!

It would be like Busse knives making a a Kel tec pf9 for the price of a salient arms glock

Haha that's well put. Salient is notorious for charging crazy prices for everything they "make". Want a belt buckle with a panda on it? $150

I'm seriously considering the Pike, seems like a much more solid piece.

To the OP,

It's seems I'm a little late to the party but I actually own a Salient BLK. It's a beautiful knife and has the potential to be a work horse in any collection. The first thing you notice is the polished edge with the rest of blade being matte black. It feels very natural in your hand and is much "heavier than expected", which I immediately loved. It has a very nice balance to it and the paracord wrap is really just standard, nothing special. The sheath is very sexy with one side being a red with a Griffon industries logo and the other carbon fiber with a Tracker Dan belt clip. The clip is freaking perfect! The only down side I can think of is the lock up of the blade into the kydex is terrible. I'm not sure if the paracord is impeding something or if the carbon fiber side throws it off but any solid retention is Non existent. I own a SAI glock so that was a big part in my purchase of this knife. I can't say if the $500 is worth it to everyone, but I am happy with my purchase. If your still unsure or interested I can post some pics for you.

So it's $500 and the sheath isn't even useful...yeah no thanks, but thanks.
