Any experience with this VFD?

I'm running that exact one. I've had no problems in the short while I've had it. I built an enclosure for it and it sits above the grinder a ways. I have a remote setup with speed control, forward/ reverse, and power.
I won't say it's the best out there by any means but it does work. I went with what I could afford at the time and have no regret.

Good to know. I am between this and a Teco L510. I don't mind spending a little more, but if this one will get the job done, I don't mind not having the best made either..

I've had at least eight of them and I think I've helped setup maybe another 3 or 4. Of mine, one was either DOA or died immediately on power-up. The others are all still running to the best of my knowledge.

At least 4, maybe 6, I mounted in sealed enclosures with remote control boxes and these are running grinders. One died as noted above and another went in the enclosure. It had been stored in my shop for 4 months by then and I did not try for exchange/refund.

3 are in sealed enclosures running equipment out on sites for work. Cost was not a factor in choosing these: they need to run off small generators and the HuanYang drives are much more tolerant of "dirty" power supplies than any of the big-name drives I have used.

Of those I helped other people set up, at least one ran a grinder, one ran a bandsaw and one ran a power hammer. The one on the bandsaw was unsealed and in a shop with a grinder. I know it died after a few months, but it's not clear whether the root cause was within the drive or due to dust. As far as I know, the others are still running.

Well, that's good enough for me. I'll order one and see what happens.

Next is to figure out the remote enclosure with local potentiometer and on/off switch.

I have one to run my knee mill and surface grinder. You really can't beat them for the price, and they're extremely capable/versatile drives with more parameters than anybody lever really need in the average home shop. Once you understand how the manual is laid out, and how to set and change parameters, you can really dial it in for whatever machine(s) you want to run with it.

Well, I bought one. Hope you don't mind if I lean on your for your expertise on this unit.

Is there a copy of the manual online? Wishful thinking, probably.

Are the remote control boxes some have talked about something you put together yourself, or an add on you can purchase?

Here's a few pictures of my setup for what it's worth. I had plans of making my remote panel a little more fancy but I was so eager to start using it that's as far as I got. It works for me though.

I BELIEVE this is an applicable manual to the unit posted:

Most parameters will remain at their default settings for the purposes of running a belt grinder or similar machine. You'll just want to step through them and double check they are what you want/need. If using external controls, or a computer for instance, you'll change a specific parameter, vs. just using the stock keypad buttons. Most of them are pretty straight forward otherwise; things like starting acceleration, how long it takes to stop the motor, min max frequency (i.e. speeds), etc...

Some settings can get a little finicky and cause the drive to trip if you set them too high, too low, etc..., such as starting or stopping too fast, but that's all pretty easy to calibrate as necessary, based on how your motor performs. Personally, I think it's a pretty cool learning experience.

Here is the same China VFD inside an enclosure, I reused the included control panel.

It's a 2.2 kW unit which run a 1.1 kW and a 2.2 kW motor.

How did you wind up sealing the plexiglass it looks like you put on the enclosure?
Just some clear silicone. The Hoffman box was a little to shallow. I cut out the lid and made a metal frame for the plexiglass to screw to. This allowed room for the door to close and let's me see the control panel without opening the door. I punched a couple of holes in the side for air flow. I'm using coffee filters to filter the air holes. Probably not the best but it seems to be working.

I agree completely. It was fun to go through all the settings and adjust them to what I needed.
It can be a little confusing in places though. In a few places I had to stop and ask myself what are they REALLY wanting to know here.
