I've been thinking about getting a portable bead blasting cabinet to refinish some knife blades all well as stainless steel watch bands with, does anyone have experince with, as to which abrasives and grit size to use, tractor supply has a small unit for 109.00. Thanks for any advice

Go to Harbor Freight and get this unit:

They have been on sale for a few months now "in the store" for $219. (just recommended one to a buddy).

And use this 20% coupon (cut one of them out - they never expire)

Knocks the price down to $175 + tax. Just $66 more than what you were planning to pay and it is a HECKUVA lot better cabinet (the table-top versions are seriously junk).

Just my opinion. ;)

Any non-silica-based abrasive will work great. Aluminum Oxide leaves a coarser finish, Glass bead leaves a finer finish (but "cuts" slower).

I use Silicon Carbide at 120 grit for blades as well as handles.
