any filipino arts dojos in bay area

Hello all I am new to the forum I have been studying kenpo for 4 years but have always been impressed with the filipino arts. My question is are there any good dojos in the general vicinity of oakland, berkeley, san francisco, contra costa county area to train or if not any recommendations for good videos. I have tom cruse (sp) terminating the fight, how to build a fighter, and one of steve gradys flow of filipino hands. thanks for any help.

thanks for the info steve I do need someplace a little bit closer to me hopefully the fma database you gave me helps I was hoping to find somewhere that may not be in the phone book where someone trains I just will have to do a little more legwork. I know I can find something better than this west wind bok-fu nonsense that is around. thanks.

Joe,
There is a Sayoc Kali teacher in the Oakland area.
He only teaches privately, but he is very good. His name is Colin Ryan
E-mail: persev1@aol.com
He is one of the best.

Isn't Sonny Umpad on that island in the bay where Wally Jay lives? He's worth the drive.
Is it Alameda maybe? Anyway his fulcrum stuff changes the regul siniwali very nice and he trains and teaches hard. Good stuff.

well I find it hard to believe I have not had any such luck finding a filipino arts dojo to train in which is pretty nearby (at least that is listed in the phone book) in the berkeley, san francisco, oakland area so it looks like I may have to make that long drive to the south bay or either keep buying videos. Thanks for all the replys folks it is appreciated.

Hi,

In the Berkeley area there is a Serrada Eskrima class (of which I am a member) taught by Elrik Jundis.

The class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m.

We practice outside, on top of the "Bear's Lair" which is a campus food court on Lower Sproul Plaza at U.C. Berkeley.

Try Guy Chase. I think he still teaches out of J-Town YMCA. He is certified under Guro I and last I heard, pretty tight with the Villabrille Kali group.

Also, there is a Doce Pares group in Berkeley area, I think under the Bandalans
