Any folding knives built as strong as a CS Spartan?

I just watched a knife test on YouTube where a 220 lb guy stood on it suspended sideways between two blocks. Then he put almost 500 lbs on the lock etc etc.
Can any foldable at ANY price do this? (I'm serious. I honestly don't know)

Do you need folder for that? Or you use it to cut staff. Do you select folder based on its ability to sustain 500 lbs put on lock, or for convenience of carry and esthetics?
I honestly do not see any sense in similar tests. They only show that these things are badly engineered - they sustain loads and forces which never will be applied in normal use - so they are heavier, bulkier and more expensive than they absolutely have to be. Not by much - so that tests are not significant even in this regard... ;)
And o boy it is ugly!

The Cold Steel pocket bushman is super strong for a whole lot less.

Gotta love the RAM lock, I've intentionally abused one.... the real test is to see if it will still lock open like the pocket bushman even after batoning the crap out of it while locked open.

Well, it is ugly but it's not an issue for me. As far as I'm concerned the Spartan isn't an EDC. It's nothing more than vicious concealed weapon which will stay on the shelf so long as we live in peaceful times.

I don't get it. If by "nonpeaceful times" I assume you are talking about some sort of social distress/collapse of law and order....then why not a gun? Or at the least a fixed blade that is guaranteed not to fail at a pivot? And why conceal? Afraid of breaking the law during violent social anarchy?

Doesn't make sense to me at all.

As for that video...it was on YouTube, so it has to be true.

Yeah... What he said was really....
Yeah.... Just no....

This is a site where people are appreciative of great steel, great designs, great knives. Are you saying that building a superior lock is 'bad engineering'? As for price, Cold Steel is pretty damn cheap compared to the majority of the larger names in the knife world. Your statement doesn't make any sense.

Your statement doesn't make any sense.
As you please! Your statement "invites" an argument but I just do not really care at the moment. If you believe that Cold steel Spartan represents "great steel, great design, great knife" - it is very good. And it is pretty damn cheap too - good for you!:D

And I agree about cheap! For this knife. Not for CS knives in general as you put it...

Well now just wait a second. We could be invaded by a race of really fat space aliens whose master plan for the domination of our planet is to come here and sit on the backs of our flimsy folders and make their locks fail.

Could happen. Then whose knife is ugly!

Nothing wrong with strong.:)
I agree that it's ugly (to ME), but badly engineered? Not a chance.
It is very well engineered. And a reasonable price.
And why do some think it would only be useful as a weapon? It would do just fine as an outdoors folder.
The woods doesn't care if your knife is ugly or not.

Wow! 2 actual replies to my question and a whole bunch of people offering unsolicited opinions about what's what.

Chill.
It's a discussion board, and people are free to offer just about any opinion they want.
It's not all about you.:)

And I'm not really a fan of recurves in general.

That Spartan's AUS-8, right? I like AUS-8. Good steel for the price.

You're replying before actually READING the message. I'm not saying Cold Steel uses great steel or great design. I'm saying knife fans appreciate those things and pay attention to innovations in the field. If Cold Steel has innovated in lock design and strength why would you crap on them for it?

Also, if you didn't care you wouldn't be contributing messages on the subject. Actions prove intent and interest.
