Well, after not having a car (lots of trucks and suv's, though) in 6 or 7 years, and not having a sporty car since I was 19, I went and picked up a 94 GT w/ 5.0 and 5-speed. Needs a little work cosmetically, but it runs well and has a few upgrades. Just wondering if there are any other fans here, and any advice as far as what to look for. I've signed up @ mustangforums.com, but if there are any other good resources I should check out let me know!

Die hard Mustang fan here. Nice choice...look to Stangnet/Mustang Corral for help. For online sales or performance upgrades Lethal Performance in Wellington, Fl or Justins Performance Center in Md are your best bets. (Both shops are dealers of my companies products as well. (Day job-Shop Foreman for McLeod Racing) You are also more than welcome to pm/email me with any questions you may have. My weekend driver is a heavily modded 89 Convertible/Dart 331/6-speed/full Maximum Motorsports road race suspension. I'd be glad to help any way I can.

Thanks! I'll check them out, and I may take you up on the offer. I've always been into 4X4s, but I'm pretty new to anything without a transfer case:p I'm going to dig into it a bit over the next month and see what's already been done to it-I know it's got an aftermarket exhaust, a chip that ties into the intake and o2 sensor, and a K&N drop-in filter, but the guy I bought it from thought it'd had more done to it than that.

I think in 94' they went to a 4.6 liter. Are you sure you have a 94' 5.0? Fox 4 frame instead of the original fox? I've owned a 93', a 99', and an 08'.

93 is the last for the fox body and 94 was the last year of the 5.0

Sorry, OP. I got sidetracked. What are you looking to do there? More horsepower? A better exhaust system? There are a ton of bolt on changes you could make to that car. Your limitations are basically equal only to those of your imagination and your wallet.

Well, I actually just wanted something a little more fun to drive than my F150:cool:, but I do want to bring it up a little in power. It's got an exhaust on it (I was told Flowmaster, but I can't currently crawl under there and look to see for sure), and I'm planning on a CAI soon. Since I'm more used to trucks, suspension and power-wise I'm sure the car is currently more capable than I am. I'm more looking at the dependability/upkeep issues that may arise, as I'd like to do some long roadtrips next year.

As an aside, 95 was the last year for the 5.0 ( I did a bit of research before buying, and went with the 5.0 in case I decide I have to build something to keep up with dad's new Camaro-built 351s are still fairly cheap compared to a built 5.4:D )

What about the heads? Most people default to Edlebrock, but, you see, I'm a fan of the Trick Flow Systems Twisted Wedge stuff, myself. As I said, it can get expensive. What do you want to do?

Currently the intake is stock with a K&N filter. I'm partial to to K&N CAIs, but if you have a suggestion I'm all ears.

As far as heads, I'm pretty sure they're stock. I'm considering upgrading them, but from what I've read using some of them are dependent on the piston (some need to be notched for clearance?). I've only been into an engine a couple of times (56 Willys rebuild and 91 Ranger head gasket), so it may be that I'll get the head/intake manifold/cam all done at a shop at once. I'm pretty sure I'd have parts left over if I try it mysel:D I could definitely use some suggestions on the good combos that work together well!

Thanks, and I will! Wrecked a couple of trucks this winter, don't feel a need to push it too hard (and can't afford for my insurance to go up any higher!)

I had a 93 notchback 5.0 and then held off until they released the new 5.0 so now I have a 11' 5.0 with a 3.73 rear end with the 6 speed. Your options are pretty much endless. Check out Steeda for some ideas :) And then theres the other sites like jegs and summit racing. The 302 is a lot of fun to mod. You could pick up a steeda CAI and a ECU re-flash :)

93 is the last for the fox body and 94 was the last year of the 5.0

1996 was the first year for the 4.6. 1993-1995 were hypereutectic pistons equipped engines. 1995 was the last of the 5.0. 94/95 5 liter engines were left over from the Thunderbird and rated to only 215 hp. Thet also had the bastard child intake manifold. The t-5 in the tunnel is also 5/8 longer in length should you decide to upgrade the tranny at any point. If switching to a tko or the like you'll need a 5/8 inch driveshaft spacer to use you oem d/s. Look to cheap upgrades first K&N/timing advance/exhaust upgrade etc. I would recommend 1-5/8 shorty headers and 2-1/2 exhaust with a high flow x or h pipe. (with or w/o cats depends on where you live.) Gears will definitely help 3:55 or 3:73 are cheap and easy to find.

Great info, thanks! Regarding the intake, will an aftermarket intake work or would I need a new block to work on?

I think Trick Flow made some cool manifolds also. Again, many people turn to Edlebrock for these. And many put a GT-40 intake manifold on these things. If it is in good shape, the block itself, will work just fine. Get a good set of heads and a good manifold and a decent exhaust system and you are in business.

Good to know. It seems that the GT-40 heads/intake are popular on the forum I've been looking at but the Trick Flow sounds like an upgrade from them. Do I need to redo anything on the block/lower end if I do the heads and intake, or will the stock stuff hold up well?

i am a ford man,never had a mustang the car,but i did put a 5.0 mustang motor in my 78 cj5,,its awesome,,when i start her she always turns peoples heads,,,o-yah

Just make sure they match. And add a set of equal length headers to maximize performance . When you start making serious horsepower things can start to break. :(
