Any Ford Mustang drivers?

Just make sure they match. And add a set of equal length headers to maximize performance . When you start making serious horsepower things can start to break. :(

Sure thing. I'm not going to go too extreme, just want it fun yet reliable. I'm just tired of needing 2 miles of clear road when I try to pass a semi (in my pickup truck).

Kalama, that CJ rocks! My buddy had a 42 willys with a hopped up 302 just out of high school so I know how fun they are!

Don't get me started on gearboxes, friend. I told you this sort of thing can get expensive.

Equal length headers won't net you but 1 or 2 hp over un equal length headers, but they will add a lot of aggravation installing them with the engine in the car. If you're interested in doing the top end of the engine look to a Holley Systemax upper/lower with a set of AFR 165 or 185 cc heads. (Chamber volume with depend on if you bore and stroke the engine and to what size) A good roller cam with 7/16 or 3/8 stud mount rockers and you'll be in business. After all this you'll need to have a chip burned to optimize your set up. If you don't abuse the T5 it might last...otherwise look to G-force or Astro Performance to fortify it. (Either way its cheaper than a TKO/or Magnum six speed) You can also look for a 6 speed take out from a 03/04 Cobra and install it behind the new engine.

My first car was a 1984 Mustang LX with the 3.8L v6 because my parents didn't want me to have a v8. As soon as I turned 18, started paying my own insurance, and moved out of the house, my neighbor dropped in a 5L V8. I had that car for 6 years. I miss that car. Chicks dig em.

Beyond test driving, I haven't been around Mustangs much. But I've had Cougars with both the 4.6 and 5.0, and both were excellent quality engines that purred like kittens when matched to a quality muffler. My Lincoln Mark VIII also had the 4.6 (DOHC and 280hp), and man that engine was smooooth! I swear it could sneak up on a jackrabbit.

Fuel economy was excellent as well, especially that 5.0. Thirty mpg may not seem like much today, but in 1986... And with a 20 gal tank... serious all day cruising!

Have fun with your Mustang!

>125k on my daily driver '02 GT..great old man's banging around the country car. I Am an old man and live in the country.

Steady 22 mpg on the 4.6 and no hassles.

My next car, if there is one, will be full-size..at 6'2", 220# and age 73 getting in and out of the Mustang keeps my back/legs limber. Maybe an SVT Lightning. Basically the Mustang is a two(2) passenger vehicle..even grand kids outgrow the backseat... fast.
