Hey guys, I live on the shoreline at the moment, but I was wondering if there were any good knife shops in CT. I used to go to North Cove Outfitters in Old Saybrook, but they're no more.

I did not realize that North Cove Outfitters was gone. They had a good selection of stuff, albeit pricey.

One outdoor shop I like is Ure Outfitters in Hope Valley, RI. The proprietor is friendly and an avid outdoorsman, and they have all kinds of neat gear. A bit of a drive from the shore, though. It's just across the border from Voluntown.

There's Cabela's in East Hartford, but I don't recall their knife selection being all that great. Isn't there a cutlery store in the West Farms Mall?

The victorinox store in west farms has by far the best selection I've found.

Cabela's doesn't have much of high quality. Some BMs, some Kershaw, a handful of Spydies, and occasionally the Hogue folders.

Yeah cabelas isn't really all that great. Is it a victorinox store, or do they just specialize in victorinox? There was a place in Hamilton,nj called Harry's army navy that had a sweet selection of knives. I need a job too, was hoping a good knife store was around.

Wow, that's the oddest thing... I live up the road from Ure.
They have a modest selection, but not a truly extensive cutlery source. I browse regularly: Buck, Benchmade, Boker, Victorinox, and others, including axes and saws. They have very broad outdoors gear coverage, however.

Cove Cutlery on Rt-1 in RI is gone (that's how we give directions here - where things used to be). That was a good spot, though a little spendy. It seems all brick & mortar outfits are expensive.

victorinox in Monroe has their factory sales a few times a year. I think they recently opened a store there too, but I have not been there recently.

Hoffman's on the turnpike carries common stuff like Benchmade, Spyderco, etc. Northeast Outfitters in Middlefield used to have great selection of custom stuff when it was Cubetta's, but I think the whole place is shut down now. When Northeast Outfitters took over Cubetta's both stores tanked. Center sports in Columbia and Lebanon Sports sometimes have some good stuff too. Cabela's is a disappointment. There's Riverview guns in East Windsor, but the one time I was in there, everything seemed to be priced at MSRP. Newington Gun might have some too. Haven't checked in there in a while.

Victorinox in the Westfarms mall is closing at the end of the year. All the good stuff (Spydies and Benchmades) has been picked over already (don't ask me how I know). They do have a good assortment of SAKs, Klotzli, and Wm Henry on hand. Cabelas has a modest assortment, some Benchmades, Hogues, Case, CRKT, not many Spydies. Hoffmans on the Berlin Turnpike only has a few knives, Benchmade, Buck, etc. There's a new military surplus store across from Hoffmans that has a surprising large selection. Lots of "fantasy" knives, but they also have many Beckers (2, 7, 9, and their Zombie line), Kabars and a few Spydies and Cold Steel. I forget their name though. Newington Gun doesn't have anything. My recommendation for CT: 1) Victorinox in Westfarms until they close, 2) Cabelas, 3) hit the two on the Berlin Turnpike.

I lived in newington for 13 years and have never been in there. Is north east outfitters by agway? It used to be cubetas? Been there too, but not in years. Bought a bucktool there. The fly section downstairs is amazing. Edit:just saw you said it was cubetas... Lol I've been to New England outfitters too.

Yeah that's the one. It's closed up tight. Too bad because it was awesome building to have that type of business in. When they sold it, it spiraled downhill quick. I'm not sure if New England (i put northeast before, my mistake) Outfitters is still in Wallingford. I stopped in a while ago, and it had gone way downhill too.

I bought one of my bows there and took my archery hunting test at New England outfitters 14 years ago. Haven't been there since.

Right now in Westfarms mall, Victorinox is going out of business :( However, they have a 50% sale (applies to pretty much everything). This means the deals are even better than ebay sales and such. Plus, they do have a good selection, including some discontinued blades.

Maybe BMG? How the prices on the Beckers? Saw a Buck Hood Punk at cabelas the other day...interesting looking knife...but like folks said- oof, high prices! 1/2 off at West Farms would be cool if they have a few of the older knives still kicking around...

None that I know of. There used to be one in a mall in my town years ago, but they closed down.

I do all my shopping online these days.

Yes, right next to BMG in the same building. I almost grabbed the BK9, prices seem reasonable.

I was just at Victorinox last night (10/24) and this is what they have: quite a few Klotzli (fixed and folders) and Wm. Henry, but even with 1/2 off they're still high. Plenty of SAKs of all shapes and sizes including Swisstools and Spirits. The Spydercos, Benchmades, and Kershaws are essentially all gone now with a few exceptions (e.g. red Gunting trainer, red waved Delica trainer, serrated original Para, Caspian Salt, a Snody and gold class Benchmade). Some sharpening gear (stones, diamond, rod systems, and steels) left. Plently of Victorinox kitchen cutlery left, along with the Swiss luggage and computer bags. Also lots of watches remain, but they are still high even with 1/2 off.

I check Cabelas usually once a week too, because I work right near there. They have a pretty fair assortment, but yeah, prices are somewhat high.

That sucks about the Vic store closing. I'm heading there on Sat to look around I guess.

Quonset Surplus Store in Portland carries some benchmades and spydies, pretty much at msrp too.
