I went to Woodcraft in Canton (only wood and wood working supplies), but not too much of a supply. Anyone know of any good places in MI so tha you can go in and pick out what you want?
Thanks In Advance.

I just picked up some beech (not exotic, but oddly hard to find) at Armstrong Millworks in Highland, MI. They, like Rockler Woodworking in Royal Oak, have a cartload of turning blanks that range from "wine stopper" size (2x2x4") to longer pieces (2x2x18") to bowl blanks (6x6x4"). I picked up a few wine stopper blanks at Rockler that I thought had potential. The species I picked were zebrawood, rosewood, some sort of mahogany, and some other good-looking tropical wood whose name escapes me.

The things have been coated--and I mean "globbed on"-- with shellac, so they take some cleanup.

Go to Keim Lumber in Millersburg, Ohio carries exotic woods. It's in the heart of the NE Ohio Amish Country. Great Amish restaurants all around there too. Only about 40 minutes from Canton.

Johnson's Workbench in Charlotte, MI (that's not SHAR-lut, either, mind you- it's shar-LAHT) has a section in the back of exotics- a couple boxes of cutoffs for fairly cheap, and then a room full of organized boards.

Charlotte is on I-69, south of Lansing, north of Marshall.

If you get down towards Canton again check out Hartville Hardware, about 10 minutes north of Canton. They carry a full line of exotic woods, good quality and excellant prices. They also have the largest tool inventory in the state.
