I have yet to handle one of these and the Pics I've seen of it aren't that great. If someone could point me in the right direction for good pictures and or Specs of the SteelHeart II i would appreciate it.

specs, I believe, can be found at busse's site:
www.bussecombat.com

i assume you're referring to the cruddy pic on the site. if folks can take some pix and post them HERE, maybe it'd be nice to see a Stl Hrt 2 (and Badger!) alongside some other, more familiar knives of similar length?

Here's one I nabbed somewhere off the net.

Greg,

Nice picture. I assume that is an ATAK under the SH II. I did not realize that the Busse SH II was that much bigger than the MD ATAK. Sorta figured that they would be extremely similar in dimension.

Thanks for the pic,

Waldo

Greg, that's kind of odd. It certainly looks like a MadDog ATAK there under the Steel Heart. The ATAK supposedly has a 7 inch blade. The SH supposedly has a 7.25 inch blade.

Does Busse measure their blades from the tip to the start of the choil, instead of tip to handle?

If both of those knives are still in your posession, could you do a quick measurment and post the results?

If I may be so bold as to actually include mine...

RL, Greg, and DonL -- nice pics, thanks!

Same Q as Waldo and Joel Stave: can you post the measurements on the Stl Hrt 2 and ATAK? Very nice comparison the pic provides.

Waldo, Joel,
Yup, that's an ATAK below the SH II. Sorry, but I no longer have either knife in my possession. The Busse standard measurement seems to be from tip to where the sharpened edge ends. I remember when I measured the ATAK from tip up to where the blade material disappears into the handle, it came out to 6 7/8". The SH II, when measured the same way, came up to about 8 1/4".

The reason I took the Steel Heart sheath picture from the rear was to get a picture of a rivet I'll eventually have to get replaced. Its one of the two at the bottom. If you look at the one on the right in the picture, blade side, you can see that it is missing the rim necessary to hold the sheath in place. It does not matter unless you perhaps fell on it, but since I know Murphy so well....I got this sheath didn't I

Although I just purchased the Steel Heart II new, I assume it is the old style knife and sheath. One of the links above is to a sheath that appears to be a custom job. I assume the one by DonL is the standard new model Steel Heart and Sheath. I note that my canvas micarta handles on the Steel Heart II have a slight greenish tinge as opposed to my Battle Mistress which is gray.

DonL,

I must say, very nice pictures.
How do you like the Steel Heart II?

I like it lots. It's a really nice size for me, and handles quite well. For my own personal uses, if it were much bigger, I probably wouldn't get as much use out of it as I have, so the size/utility ratio for me is just about perfect. I've used it on several camping trips this summer for any number of camp chores you could imagine, and it performed very well. I even recently used it to help a friend, ahem, "deconstruct" parts of his kitchen during remodeling, and it seems a representative of the epitome of the "sharpened prybar" mindset. We're closing on our first home tomorrow, and I can't wait to start using it around ours. We have two archways we want to open up, and a kitchen to redo ourselves, so this should be fun.
