Okay, I know they "stole" the spydie hole (who pattents a hole any way?), but this knife is pretty sweet! G-10 for $40! Anyway, has anyone got one of these, and what do you think about it? Also, how is that 8Cr14MoV steel? Thank you in advance.

The hole is not patented, it is a trademark.

Have not heard anything about the quality of the knife, I can only assume it is decent- Benchmade doesn't really put out any crappy knives.

I don't think it's out yet.

Where'd you find that bi-otch for $40? BM's site says 60, and a google search left me empty-handed.
I'm getting one, soon's I find 'em.
Might get a couple to give as gifts to non-knuts who have expressed interest in carrying a decent tool.

again with the stole stuff,,,I don't see why we keep saying that, even if just joking...

i love spyderco's,,sal said even he thinks the stuff about stealing should be deleted,,so why do it again...

yes the vex looks cool,,yes there are cheaper Byrd line knives...I will probably own both..

First time seeing the vex and I like it. I really like the hole and that blade fits the bill for me. Wish they would use 154cm or ATS-34 but oh well.

I like the specs on the steel of the Byrd line (3-4 points harder Rockwell) and the lock back much better on the Byrd line, but to each his own. I do like the looks of the Vex, and I would be interested to see it compared to the Byrds head to head with the similar but softer steel. The Byrd line looked a little weird to me at first, but after using it and only paying $22 for G-10 with the performance it gives you it just looks like a beautiful tool to me now.

my local cutlery got one in. its pretty hefty and bigger than the specs lead on.

i would get it but i just feel funny about gettin a low end model when its the only one in store.

gonna wait till its in more abundant stock, so i can pick and choose from at least a couple

I just picked up a Vex, and I am pretty impressed. I am becoming a a big fan of Redline Benchmades and Byrds. If you are on a tight budget, these are are some very well made knives! This Vex has a great lockup and the fit and finish would make it a $100+ knife if it were made in Japan or the USA. I don't know about the steel, but it must be at least as good as AUS-8. The Vex is not slim, but it is a nice size. It really reminds me of the orginal Mini AFCK. I have to use it to know what the steel is like. My initial impression is very positive.:)

Sorry to drag up a old thread but I have a Vex on order. Any new thought on this knife? This will be my first one with this steel. I would like to see it in N690 I know it's pretty good. I also have a Byrd on order so I hope the steel doesn't disappoint.

I'm sure the Byrd steel won't disappoint, I can't say the same for the Vex, as I haven't even looked at a picture of it since the release announcement.

I checked one out today at my favorite cutlery shop, had to see what all the talk was about. My impressions, looks like a good value for the money. A bit chunky in hand for a liner lock. Locked up solid enough but extremely stiff. I'm sure that after a good break in it would open easier. Don't know much about the steel, G10 handles are nice, clip is ergonomically shaped with just the right amount of tension for my ubiquitous Levis. It wouldn't fill any knife gap for me so I did not buy it. I would be interested in some user reviews as they become available.

I've had my Vex for a month now. It's been in the pocket for much of the time, and has been used in the kitchen for chores. It retains a nice edge, I haven't had to sharpen it as yet. The action is nice, it's loosened up a little from lots of opening and closing while getting to know it better.

Yes, it doesn't have the same lockup, fit and finish as my 910 Stryker, but at half the cost it was a very good buy. With 154CM or S30V I'd place it in Blue class territory easily!

I'm still keeping an eye out for reviews of the 8Cr14MoV steel used. If anyone's done a comparison using 440C and Aus8 I'd be interested to know what you think.

Joe
