Any Idea How Many Knives are "Born" at CRK on any given day?

I think what I'd try is to call them near close of business that day and ask if they had any newborns that they could sell directly, and order it over the phone.

Maybe... They usually don't have anything to sell outright other than a few professional soldiers or something like that. Doesn't hurt to try though!

When we stopped by close to 2 years ago, all that was available for immediate purchase was 2 Pacifics and an Nyala or 2. There was 3 of us, and we bought both Pacifics and an Nyala. I hate to think of what I would have spent if they had a bunch of folders available at that time. :D

I don't feel that I am misguided completely. If they work on a 3-4 month backorder all the time, then how hard would it be to create an UG with specific points. And if I ordered it "well in advance" that should give them even more breathing room. And unlike Spyderco or Buck or any other production knife manufacturer who don't offer "birth date" cards, this shouldn't be as much of an issue as it seems to be. Everything I read is how a customer pleasing company they are, how is what I'm asking any different? Catching a specific date in the wild is truly an art, or damn near impossibility. IMHO

As the knives are made in batches of different models (for instance one forum member visited the factory and the only thing in production was Sikayos.....not much fun for Junior), with production focused around that event, what might make sense is for CRK to have blank birth cards and just fill them in when they get requests such as yours for a specific birthday. I've got CRK knives with opposite slabs made months apart, so clearly the actual "birth" process can be very protracted. The card is a formality at best, so they might as well fill in whatever makes the customer happy I guess, or they could keep it the way it is which suits me fine.

I have done this successfully. Wait until the date passes. Call CRK and nicely ask what was made on that date and who the dealers that received the knives were.

Easy.

Thanks Corskin, now that's an idea that I didn't think about. Plus I promise to be nice.

Oh good. I was worried :p (I don't know why I threw that in there).

Good luck in you search. Let us know if you find it.

I got my Birthday Ben a through that thread, it was listed for about a year and I got a pm from a member who saw it and wanted to know if I was interested, we even traded for it. The thread does work, it can't hurt to throw your other choices up.

Respecfully, I would say your expectations are misguided. CRK is a production knife maker, not a custom or "semi custom" knife maker. You cannot order a Sebenza born on a certain date any more than any Spyderco or Buck. They are made in massive batches that are scheduled around production realities, and demand. You can imagine the chaos that would ensue if they offered knives born on certain days. I understand and respect their reasons, and am ok with that.

100% agree. Can you imagine the hassle of letting something sit around for weeks or more waiting to be "finished" on a specific date? Too many loose ends. I also suppose like me they don't really "get" the whole obsession some folks have with birth dates. Yes, I think it would be cool to have one born on my birthday but to be honest I wouldn't go out of my way to get one.

And like you stated ... they are a production knife maker, not custom.

I found a for trade thread that is more than a year old, someone was looking to unload the exact CRK I want to be my first and it's birthday was the day AFTER mine. The date was a Tuesday and my birthday was the day before (Monday obviously). Assuming that they made that same knife for two days in a row (IDK how realistic that is), there may just be a unicorn out there waiting for me to find it.
