Any ideas on what to do with this stuff?

I found these two boxes at the resale shop the other day, and I was thinking that they were Corian samples, but then I learned they are samples of something called Leslie Marble. I got them cheap. They appear to be some kind of plaster product. Some of them are the same color through out, and some are just colored on the surface. I was originally thinking they would be good for scales, but they do shatter if dropped. They drill very easily. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with these things? If you come up with an idea, please let me know.2012-09-18_17-46-54_565.jpg2012-09-18_17-47-12_301.jpg

Why don't you make a blade and try them out for scales? I mean really? If they can use rocks and horse mats for scales, it sure won't hurt to try out some countertop material!

world stone skipping championships are coming up in scotland... you could probably grind em round and paint em with that paint that looks like rocks. i bet they'd fly like nobodies buisness. sorry to say it chief, but if they shatter easily when you drop them, they probably won't be amazing knife scales.

One answer could be too obvious; put them on top of your bench.:D Jess

If they're brittle, then I bet they'll be lousy handles, or at least have limited application.
But if they're very FLAT, they could work as small surface plates, particularly if you squared up the edges.
If they're actually an engineered stone product, then definitely don't cut on 'em. Or at least don't tell me about it. I get upset when people bang their knife edges on rocks. :(

I like the idea of display stands. Drill a couple of countersunk holes, mount a little simple hardware and viola... a new product line for knife collectors. You can use them to show off your knives, and sell them to custoers who want to show off their knives.

The display stands can be in both table top and wall mounted forms.

Call them improved mouse pads and give them away as Christmas gifts to people you do not like.
