Back when I was in the RCAC's there was a tea that was served in the '97 series of the Canadian Individual Meal Packs that I have been deserately trying to find again. It was not the usual white pack that matches everything else in the meal packs, insted it was in a beige colored package. I'm fairly sure it was called Sir Liptons" The Brisk" but I can not confirm that. Does anyone remember it? Do I have the name wrong? If I do have the name right does anyone know where I can find it? Google turned up nothing. Thanks.

that name isn't too familiar, do remember the taste, or lack there of?:D

Oh my word, I may actually have a few packets still lying around. I think it was an herbal tea, if memory serves. Seems to me it was apple cinnamon, or lemon (pack was beige or pinkish beige). I remeber those IMP's, they had some good stuff in them, like mint Oreos, Mirage Bars, Chicklets etc. The standard fills like cofee/tea and juice were also not bad. Heheh, mentioning those particular IMPs, you stirred some memories! I recall two variations of issued IMP's, Freddy Chef was one maker, the other I cannot recall, but I think both came from Quebec. Do you know which maker, meal no. (they were numbered) or general name of the IMP was? I ask because I still have dozens of old IMP bags filled with juice powders, coffee whiteners, teas, honey and peanut butter tubes etc. I can look for the tea you speak of if I know where to start.

While on the subject, mind if I ask what was your favorite IMP? I liked the "Turkey Shnitzel w/ Gravy", Hungarian Goulash, and the Ham Omelette (don't recall the meal numbers ). Those dessert 'cakes' they gave us, however, were execrable. They tasted like an innertube boiled in urine.

Anyway, see if you can remeber what IMP the tea you were fond of was offered in, and I will have a look at some old leftovers to see what I can dig up.

That would be a baked cherry dessert:barf: Did you know that those things could stop a .22?
If memorey serves me correctly the tea came in the dinner meals. Beef chop suey im pretty sure was one of them and maybe the chicken breast with gravy as well.
I think my all time favorite was the chicken breast with gravy when you poured the instant stuffing right into the gravy and the hungarian goulash mixed with the mashed potatoes. Have you ever tried mixing the instant juice mixes with hot water? The lemon, mixed fruit and pear all tasted much better warm.:D

If the honey and the peanut butter are in the yellow foil tubes there was a recall issued on them, something about the plastic coating the alluminium being toxic and contaminating the food.

While looking through my old stash I actually found a partial wrapper from one, it is beige with a gold trim, I can sort of make out the top of a captins style hat as well. It was definately a herbal tea, sort of reminded me of a cross between earl grey and orange pekoe tea. It was a very long time ago and it was what got me drinking tea in the first place.

Heh, I just rummaged through a few old IMP bags and unfortunately I didn't find any tea. I remember it was good, so no doubt I drank it all. I did find 3 tubes of honey (the yellow tubes) a few packs of coffee and whitener, some chicklets, and a few juice powders. Lots of condiments like ketchup and steak sauce, along with the other useless things. I never knew the yellow tubes of honey and PB were recalled. I ate dozens of those and never felt any ill effects, but it is interesting to learn of the recall.

Yes, the dessert was the cherry pie thing. If you ate it cold it was like eating an inner tube coated in wax. I tried heating them up, and while it improved the taste and consistency, the thing was still pretty much unpalletable.

Of all the meals, I forgot to mention my all time fave: Swiss Steak In Spanish Sauce. Man alive were those good!

Any ideas where to get them nowadays? Surplus stores had to stop selling them because they didn't list the ingredients on the package :rolleyes:I found one place in Calgary that sells british surplus, and they had a few british meal packs, but they weren't nearly as good as the IMP's we speak of. Also, they are not supposed to sell those either and had them stashed behind a rack of coats to hide them. I felt like I was buying stolen watches when the guy took me to the coat rack and moved the coats aside revealing a stack of IMPs, heheh.

If you go to Campers Village you can sometimes find the Freddy Chef packets but its usually the breakfast meals. I know a few sources that sell the MRE's but no IMP's.

I have seen the Freddy Chef ones at Campers Village, but they are really pricey and they are just the gutted boil-a-bags from the IMPs. I would like the whole IMP, with the wrapped boxes and all the good stuff that goes along with the main meal (ok maybe skip the innertube dessert and the rotten apple sauce, lol). If you ever do find somewhere that sells the whole IMP packages, be sure to let me know and send me a message. When CFBC moved from Calgary to Edmonton, you'd think all those IMPs they had would have stayed around Calgary rather than be shipped. I'll be damned if I can find a surplus store that will sell them though. Maybe I should send my son to some stores to ask, he has long hair and looks nothing like a government inspector sort, so they might open up and tell him they have some in the back or something. Jeez, its easier to buy heroin and handguns than IMPs it seems.

I dont know if you will ever find surplus IMP's. When I was with the RCAC we had to send them back to the base to be destroyed when they expired. If I ever do find a source I will let you know.

Are there any more experts out there that might now about the tea I am searching for?

Hey commander, that store wouldn't happen to be the one with the yard full of toys and the tail of a spitfire sticking out of the roof? I love that place. of course I don't want everyone to know where it is, too many good things waiting for me!

It might be a tedious search, but it would seem that, somewhere in the British Gov. paper trails, there are lists of the IMPs and their ingredients, including suppliers. Just a thought.
