Hello,

I have a Kershaw knife set that I purchased new back in the early 90's. I have never used them and they have basically been put away in our bedroom since they were purchased.

The knives were scrimshawed by Walter Alexander and are all marked #7 which is followed by 1987. I talked with Diane at Kershaw and she is finding out what she can, but didn't feel that a lot of the complete sets had ever been done.

Does anyone have any idea as to how many sets were actually completed and out of curiosity, about how much a set like this would be worth in today's market?

I have included a link that shows the set.

Thanks for your help.

I have seen a lot of scrimshaw work and Walter Alexanders is as good as it gets. The animals he does are always anatomically correct and beautiful. I have collected several pieces of his work over the years, when I could afford them that is. I am going to assume that the knives pictured are 2120's even though it is impossible to tell them in a photo because the 2105 and 2110 are identical only smaller. Most of his work was done on 2120's however. I have been collecting Kershaw for nearly 30 years and I have never seen this set, even on Ebay, which tells me that few were done. 2120's with Alexanders work on them will bring $150 and up and I have seen a few go over $200, it just depends on who and how badly someone wants the knife. You have what appears to be a rare mint set in display box. I would think a conservative value if you were to offer them on the bay would be at least $750 , then if you have two or three bidders with the bucks to spend it could go considerably higher. If I were going to insure them I would do so for around $1200. Very nice set , Congrats ! I would be interested to hear if Diane comes up with some more info for you, please post a follow up. Also welcome to Bladeforums !!!
