Hello to all you Bladeforum knife lovers and makers out there. I hope all of you are doing fine and dandy. Anyway, I have heard of a knife maker here in the USA named Richard Tingler? He is out of Maryland and has a Facebook page called Richard Tingler's Custom Knives. But anyway, had been looking up knife makers and their knives. That is when I learned about this knife maker guy. However, I cannot find any other information about him. His knives really interest me and I just wanted to run his name through BF hete and just check and see if anyone has ever heard of him...you know, to see if he was a legitimate knife maker or if he was just another poser...another fake knifemaker. If you guys have ever heard of him, please share your info. Thanks!!

This is just my 2 cents after looking at his facebook page and ebay site - many of of his knives look suspiciously like (especially the Damascus knives with filework) cheap Pakistani imports, and the thin leather sheaths look very cheaply made as well. I would definitely take a pass on the knives I saw..

Do yourself a favor and at least take a look at the custom makers for sale areas here on BF. There are many well established makers that post much nicer stuff for much less. I didn't see anything that impressed me on his page. Some of the knives do look awful similar to the cheap stuff I often see at gunshows and flea markets.
I am put off by makers that don't list things like steel type and hardness numbers. A good maker has nothing to hide and readily offers this info. Good damascus is expensive including homemade forged damascus. When I see a large bowie/fantasy damascus knife for $75 I'm suspicious.
Buying here you will likely encounter established makers that are well known in the knife making community and have positive reputations. In the end it's your money and you will spend it how you see fit.
Good luck.

I saw some of his knives posted for sale on Ebay. On there, he describes the hardness of his knives. And a friendly FYI...I am no stranger to knives and knife making and high end production knives. I have knives that were made by Andrew Clifford, Martin Knives, Sam Wilson, that awesome Ray Matton. I even have a handmade knive that was made by the master knife maker who mentored and taught Ray Matton...that is Mr. Bill Schiller from Canada.

And I have knives made by Ontario, TOPS Knives, SOG, Cold Steel, and Down Under Knives. I love my Down Under Knives. I got The Outback Bowie knife which is almost identical to the Crocogator Dundee movie knife. And my latest one isThe Toothpick knife. I do have a Damascus steel handmade knife made by Wisconsin's own, Richard Johnson. That one cost me $475. I know for a dact that Damascus steel was hand forged. It is one veautiful knife too, with its stag handle. So I can see where you are coming from about those Richard Tingler knives being cheap ones from Pakistan. Thanks for your input buddy!

You're welcome guy!

His knives are pieces of crap and will break on you. If you tell him they broke he will pass it off as you don't know how to use a knife, Says that his knives are strong but beware a tree will bend it. Hardness is low 50's. Not to mention he is a very rude guy

After looking at his FB page I would not buy a knife from him, those look like Pakistani knives for sure.

You know I sit her reading all of these remarks that are based on pictures only.
This reminds me of the kids in schools that say the teacher “touched” them inappropriately and ruin the Teachers carrier with no facts or anything to back up what they say. Then when proven wrong the Teacher is still scared from it. Sounds to me like a bunch of hypocrites or just afraid that I’ll take business from your groups knife sellers. I have NEVER said I was better than anyone or put ANYONE else’s products down in except for the Eli Machete witch almost everyone has tried to use what the already had as it and not researched what it really was like. Like the main fact that all holes are the same size. But that is not what we are talking about. I see you remark that the File work makes mine look like Pakistan crap. So I try one –yes just-one knife with a section of CNC file work on the back edge. So I must be making them in Pakistan-I see the logic in that-NONE! So from a picture I have cheap leather Sheaths - So I must be making them in Pakistan-I see the logic in that-NONE-you eye sight is so good you can see that in a picture. I just measured and mine are 1/8” or thicker-so that is thin and weak from your computer. And then we come to “Spartan-Warrior” should I assume this is Mr. Kuna Kantriphet since this IS THE ONLY KNIFE THAT HAS EVER BEEN SAID TO HAVE A PROBLEM! A ¼” of the tip bent and he had it over a year and want a refund when I said no because it could have been abuse and He threatened to ruin my reputation if I didn’t refund him. I do not warranty the tips and from research most companies do not ether. But I will say if it was only a couple months I still would have refunded him but not after more than a year. Yes I may have been rude to him –BUT- I do not take kindly to being threatened-Would You?
If it was not him it was someone that emailed me after ready what you said on here. Posting on my FaceBook Page that my Knives are like butter and the person has never held one, bought one, or used one. It is real easy for all of you to sit here a judge me and If I was the same I would think everyone on the forum was an asshole-BUT I Don’t! I do not know any of you so how can I say what you are like. BUT THEN HOW CAN YOU SAY WHAT I AM LIKE? Why is it that some of my customers have OVER 6-9-15-18 knives from me? I guess because they are junk. How come I have a couple of them being used rite now in the Afghanistan War by our military guys I sell and GIVE TO? A famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts instructor from Porto Alegre, Brazil."Ricardo Murgel" bjjmurgel@yahoo.com.br has quite a few of my knives of all types. He also instructs Police and Military alike. I have sold my knives to customers in at least 6 other countries and most of bought more of them. So all I am saying is that you all are judging me without any background or real proof of any kind. Look on my Ebay Page 100% feedback and I sold 2- swords on GunBroker and the asked me if He should send me more money since I didn’t have a reserve and felt after seeing them and using them He cheated me. So you all just keep talking and I’ll keep selling. And I Doubt any of you even read this far down and yes you’ll justify everything in your little minds that what you did was ok because you have already shown the type of people you are. I feel sorry for you and will pray for you to have peace, love and compassion and not to be so swift to judge others.

This thread died a while ago, so I doubt the OP is still following it. I know you feel the need to defend yourself, but I'm pretty sure it won't be very effective here.

Why don't you come over to the shop talk section of the forum, and introduce yourself. Many members ask questions there, and share some of their works in progress. You may enjoy hanging out there, and can show the naysayers that you really are a knife maker by showing some of your projects.

Thanks Shane!
Maybe I will do just that, haven't looked around the Forum yet so still not even sure what is all in here!
Thanks again Richard

Just wanted to say this post is not completely gone. Last week one of my brother's, my father and I were handed down some of your work from our father's best friend. One of our role models who taught my brother's and I to lay block in the summertime as kids up til present. They were purchased by his father so well be the 3rd generation now taking care of them. Not owning more then a good work or hunting knife so far in my life these are without a doubt the nicest blades I've ever had. Thank you for you hard work on them

Not quite sure how to share a photo on here yet
