Any interest in scrapped springs (5160)?

My company had to scrap a brand new batch of leaf springs, due to the wonder world of Military Procurement change notices. It's 5160 heat treated to Rc 42-47. There is at least 1000# of it in our scrap bin. The leaves are either .401 x 3" or .360 x 3". Would anyone even be interested?

My hunch is that if you know with certainty that they're 5160 (ie, there's a sticker on them, or your position within the business gives you access to the information), you'll get some takers :)

Ill take a length of it. I need a good machete and that would be perfect for me to forge. That is when I get the time to do anything. Call me or email me and we will get going on it.

Tinker...
Any chance there's a hammer in coming up...nearby..?

That would be the perfect way to sell some....maybe a bunch.

I very much prefer the thinner of the two thicknesses you specified. How much do I owe you for about a yard to about 4 foot of it in lengths no shorter than about 14 inches? I trust it is 5160(?). My email address is good here or if easier you can find it at www.QRZ.com. Just type in KD8BZY in the top left corner where it asks for a call sign.

Thanks.

Tinker,
If you want I'll test a piece to put everyone's mind at ease. Just shoot me an email.

Just did the math. The .360 will weigh a pound every 3 1/4" and the .401 a pound every 3". So the stuf is around 4 lbs a foot. And yes I still want some.

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I'm happy to give the material away, free, if people are willing to pay shipping costs from Abilene, KS, 67410. Honestly, it's the least I could do for this forum as I've learned so much from this place. The inventors of the internet had BladeForums in mind when they came up with the idea.

who would you use to ship, should be your choice, so you aren't running from one to the other for different requests

I'd like to get on the list for whatever amount can be reasonably shipped to NC for ~$20. Could take it to the guild meeting next month.
