Any interest in some titanium plates?

These are salvaged from some vacuum equipment. As you can see from the photos, there are screw holes in them, and one side has small craters from it's past life.

Dimensions are:

5-1/4" wide

16-5/8" long

About .090" thick.

Each plate weighs 20.5 oz.

I've seen similarly sized pieces priced at almost $100, but you'll have to work around the screw holes and other blemishes, so I think $50 per is a reasonable price.

BTW, I purposely took the pictures of the worst plate. Some of them are almost completely smooth.

Thanks for looking,

BTW, if you buy one of these, you'll have a piece of history. The vacuum equipment these plates came from were used in the development of night vision technology. :)

For what it's worth.

Hey Phillip -- Do you know what the alloy is? -- Thanks, Phil

Hi Phil,
My dad says that because of the function these plates provided, they had to be pure titanium. Maybe I should send a sample to be tested, eh?

Thanks for asking!

I wonder how it would compare to the Ti-6Al-4V stuff I use. Stacked or layered with thinner pieces and liner material it probably wouldn't matter too much, but pins through it would probably show I guess. Maybe I should give it a try. It's just a tad under an inch think, right? How do you want to work shipping? Would it save much to cut it down so it will fit in a USPS flat rate package?

Oops, I got the thickness wrong in my first post. It should be .090" :o
I do that all the time...

If you're still interested, flat rate boxes would work fine. Might not even have to cut them up.

I'll think about Phillip. Right now I'm looking at some fossil walrus ivory that will set me back if I can swing it. Thanks, Phil
