I think i can say, that this is a very BROAD range of ages, experiences, lifestyles, here on WS&S, yes? Some of you have been in battle for your countries, some of you have policed your states and provinces, others have taught, others have been or are still students, others still are everyday working people. This is a VERY broad collective group of people, yes?

we as that broad group of people, enjoy various media ranging from web to film to real life. We have all seen youtube videos on survival, shelters, firemaking, end of the world as we know it etc etc.......we have experienced such life, we practice it daily, some of us pay the ultimate sacrifice, some of us teach those skills, some of us film those experiences.......

......

rambling aside, hows you all feel about something way outside the social norms of film-making? something that spans the 80s music era, the Wolverines! film era, the end of the world, nukes, zombies, survival era, a film that encompasses the 80s onward, featuring music, emotions, horror, war, death, life, one mans quest, survival skills, life in the city, the emotions of a man and his family trapped in the city, fighting to stay alive, fleeing, wilderness, hardship, love, triumph, battle, horror, survival in extreme conditions, and finally, the entire sequence filmed and unedited, presented to the world as an art film release?

I have spent many hours in my own mind, picturing such a film, waking up in the middle of the night sweating profusely, running to write down flashes of thoughts. Slamming my truck to stop in the middle of rush hour to jot down camera angles and music appropriate to such scenes. Driving the GF nuts by reviewing songs from the early 80's and 90's over and over, going as far as tape recording them and driving to various areas of the country, playing said music to see if it will work with the scene in question.

I have a an idea for a very different film, and in 2010, i plan to work my arse off for the sole reason of buying a pro grade movie camera, so i can film what i have in mind.

think music by Scorpions (winds of change), to Haddaway (what is love) to Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, VNV nation, Cradle Of Filth, Dropkick Murphies, The real mackenzies etc. Think disturbing footage of the DTES in Vancouver, war, violence, nukes, death, starvation, and fire, life, shelter, triumph, love.

I have a vision, and frankly it scares the crap out of me. Never before have i ever had so many thoughts, and so many ideas, and so many pictures in my mind.

I have to get this out. expect something interesting in late 2010.

Sounds like a fusion of the movie 28 Days Later and something from Ray “there's no bore like a knife bore” Mears. As a rule I don't do generalizations, but zombie movies suck. Now if it was bent more toward The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks, that would get more of my attention. As for turning an R2 45 movie into a musical, I'm not so sure about that.

I'm very curious about your professional movie camera and releasing the movie as unedited footage. It would be good if you could expand on that. Although I have several TB of storage I wouldn't even consider that. Mind you I'm only playing about with Sony Vegas so I'm out my depth to some degree.

Oren Peli shot Paranormal Activity with a hand-held home video camera and it only cost him like 15,000USD. If one guy could direct, produce, and edit a movie that turned into a worldwide succes i cant see why you shouldnt. Just believe in it. Good luck bro.

You're a disturbed person, Bushy. A very disturbed person... and that's what usually drive people to make art (except me: I do it for the money ;)).

If you really have the vision and the drive, then I'd say go for it. It could be a bomb, or a worldwide success... who knows? One thing to keep in mind, though, is that — if you really feel it — it will haunt you forever if you don't take a shot at it.

I'm with baldtaco on this though — zombie movies suck: they've been done to death (excuse the pun).

I believe I would give it a go as a book first and go from there. That could help you finance the total project.

I'm just not interested in the project unless it has parts of the following songs somewhere in it:

1. Wicked World by Black Sabbath
2. Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath
3. Killing Yourself to Live by Black Sabbath
4. The Green Manalishi by Judas Priest
5. Run to The Hills by Iron Maiden
6. The Trooper by Iron Maiden
7. I'd Love to Change The World by Alvin Lee/10 Years After
8. Flirtin' with Disaster by Molly Hatchet
9. That Smell by Lynyrd Skynyrd
10. Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult
11. The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash
12. If We Make It Through December by Merle Haggard
13. Fist City by Loretta Lynn

OK, I'm joking, well...maybe. ;)

think Sergio Leonne remaking Natural born killers, meets woods survival types, set in a present day decaying city that ultimately collapses, leaving our star to fend for himself in the woods, using wilderness skills, all with a healthy dose of industrial music, punk, bouts of silence, narratives, and b/w and harsh color lenses on the camera.

This screams 'graphic novel' to me. The genre is neat - a contemporary but nostalgic re-imagining of 80's-era dystopian projections, with a survivalist twist, all set to period music. Sort of like Mad Max meets Red Dawn, set to the Ramones.

Conclusions: (1) Bushman5, you've gone mad, and (2) I really look forward to checking this out!

Best of luck with the enterprise. As an aside, you might be able to tap into some of the film resources and talent that we have on the West Coast. The Vancouver film program is pretty well known, and they might be keen on sharing resources.

Going with a book first also makes a script transition fairly simple. Write the book first. It'll help you hash your ideas out.

Wait, aren't you describing Gummo?

I was going to post some YouTube links, but you really have to watch the whole movie to get the full effect.

I was joking, by the way. Gummo is infinite hopelessness.
