First off sorry I have been absent. I have been really slammed with heat treating. This has made us take a hard look at where the shop is going and where we want it to be. It seams like everyone wants to send us AEBL. Which is not bad as we have a rather solid process for it.

This brings us onto what we are thinking of offering going into the new year. We are thinking of buying a cnc Plasma. We are also wanting to keep AEBL and possibily others in stock. This will allow you to order a blade(s) and we will supply material, do the heat treat and do surface grinding if wanted. This will save you guys money as your not having to pay for shipping besides from us to you.

This is not a for sale thread. We are just wanting to see if this is something you guys would be interested in.

Thanks guys - JT

Do I have it right that you are in the Pacific northwest JT? What you are offering is something I would certainly be interested in.

With flat rate shipping boxes, your offered services should be of interest to anyone, anywhere in the conus.

Most definitely would be interested

I would be interested in the CNC plaz thing. I guess if they are cut out I would probably be down for hardening too.

Yeah ... I'd be interested as well, that's a great idea and you could get it perfectly flat after heat treat ... When are you thinking about getting the cnc plasma?

Hi JT, Just to clarify for me. Are you offering to HT and then surface grind flat to a desired thickness (for example .125 =/- .005) and grind the bevel or just HT and surface grind to a set thickness? Can you do Elmax and Nitro V?

We have not set an exact data but we are thinking soon(ish). The quickest thy would be able to deliver is January. I had a good chat with uddaholm at blade west and talked about ordering straight from them for the AEBL. The little hitch to this entire plan is converting your drawings over to gcode quick and efficiently. Which we think we have it figured out but we are still looking for quicker options. You would just have to email us a clean line drawing and we take it from there. We are not sure as of yet what the price point will be but it should be good. If this goes well we can branch out into other steels. This will also benefit the 15n20 side of things as well. We can offer smaller strips that are precut so its less work for you guys to cut up for blades or Damascus. Kinda thinking doing the full sheets like we do 11"x24" pre-cut and leaving everything connected with tabs. This way thy can still be stacked and packed into a flat rate box.

No bevel grinding. You would order X number of Blades at X thickness. You would provide the drawing and I would cut, heat treat and surface grind to final thickness. The surface grinding is an added feature we currently do. So you would not have to have them surface ground if you didint.

Yes I can heat treat Elmax Nitro V. I’m not sure how soon we would be keeping that in stock as that is a large investment. But certainly a possibility.

To give you an example, this is a batch of AEBL I just did for a customer.
