Any Irish here ?

Jeff,
Dingle is a lovely little spot and Connemara is nice but Bleak!Kinsale is a great place for a break, depending which way you come from Dingle you might pass a little village called Annascaul, birthplace of one of my heroes, a guy called Tom Crean .I have been to his South Pole Inn and very drunk they made me!
Waterford is a great spot, cleaner than Dublin and easy to get around on foot, pity Kilkenny is next door :) Just across the river Suir actually, where the Tall Ships set sail from on the first leg of their race.
September is generally better weather wise then June here, should be good as this year so far has been fine and warm for a change.

Only thing you may find is we all use the Euro currency now and apparently Ireland is one of the priciest areas to holiday in Europe?? The South is cheaper than Dublin,or tourist areas like Kinsale, but do shop around and look for areas the locals eat and drink for best value.

Have a good trip and I hope your relatives like the place ;)

I like visiting Dublin, but apparently it now has the worst crime rate of any European capital. I know that it's not good to be north of the Liffey after dark. Along with Dingle my favorite area is Donegal. All the beauty with a fraction of the people. :)

My wife has cousins living on Tory Island (Toraigh),off the coast of Donegal. The most off shore inhabited island we have apparently. You want secluded, head out there for a painting holiday :) The hotel is pricy but the B&B is run by my wifes cousins, the "club" doesn't know when to close up shop and there are no Police,so no closing times, on the island.

Melting pot is for scrap metal, I would rather think of my heritage as forged like Damascas.

Only a tiny portion Irish, it had to shift over and make way for the Scots, Prussain, Cornish, Welsh (probably a bit of hound)....

As for me there are still a few cold shuts.

You're right at home here. My great grandparents came from County Cork in the 1880s.

Connemara was not my choice. A friend's family came from there and my wife insists on going. My choice was to stay at the Harbor Master's House on the Grand Canal in Shannon Harbour. We could rent boats to either cruise the canal or Lough Derg on the Shannon.

Ireland isn't too expensive if you stay in B&B's and eat in the pubs whenever possible. I found a nice economical hotel in the Dublin area, Bewley's in Ballsbridge (south of the city center by the Embassys). It is around 1/2 the price (99 Euros) of comparable places that I looked at and Ballsbridge seems a pretty safe place. http://www.bewleyshotels.com/ballsbridge_hotel.asp

We just got back from a fortnight in the Repuplic, our first visit over there and the first of many I hope. :)
First week we stayed in a nice little house about 20km outside of Killkenny; a lovely medieval town. Visited Dublin for a day, It's a busy old spot! (hope to go back one year for "Bloomsday" :) ).
For our second week we travelled up to Sligo and stayed in a house with a fine view across Donnegal Bay.BTW, I think that a lot of folk that fled Ireland during the famine departed from Sligo.
Yeats called Sligo the "land of Hearts desire" it's easy to see why; It's one of those places where the mythic past seems almost tangible. The place is littered with standing stones, lonely hilltop burial cairns and dolmen. And Benbulben, whilst not the tallest of mountains, seems to Dominate the land with his glowering presence.
We'll be going Back as soon as we can, we all fell for the country bigtime. I envy anyone who is on their way to Ireland. :D
Oh, BTW anyone going to Donnegal has to visit the Slieve League cliffs which have a claim to being the highest sea-cliffs in Europe, simply stunning. :D
