Will be in Portland for a trade show October 13 to 16 at the convention center. Anyone recommend any knife shops in the downtown area? I'm thinking there has to be a few.

Hawthorne Cutlery, Deek and Brian's Next Adventure, and Andy and Bax Surplus come to mind.

I have always bought online. We have a ton of knife companies, but most are outside of downtown, most in surrounding/connecting cities. I hear the Benchmade place is pretty interesting, but haven't made my way there yet.

Yes, Andy and Bax is very close, but it is a surplus store, not knife shop. Good deals though.

Andy and Bax is a regular stop for me and the boys. Neat store with a decent selection of knives.

As far as independent shops go I don't really know of any outside oaks bottom forge (about 10 min from downtown) and they primarily do kitchen knives and smaller customs to order I believe. Lots of outdoors stores around town if you're looking for a retailer. There's another guy at the Saturday market that has custom knives but I can't remember the name of his shop.

I would suggest Hawthorne knives, you have to zip over to the Hawthorne district, but it's worth it.

And hell, let us know when you are in town so us from the forums can meet up!

Murray Carter is in Beaverton, a suburb or Portland -- about 20 mins drive from downtown pending traffic. They were really welcoming to me when I was visiting PDX and made time to give me a quick tour. You probably want to set up an appointment as far in advance as possible, though, just to be courteous. They seem pretty busy!
