ANY KNIFEMAKERS OR CLASSES AROUND NYC?

I want to learn blacksmithing and how to make knives and have been investigating knifemaking schools and classes. The only problem is I live and work in New York City and I can't find anything near here. I'd love to find a local maker that I could approach for advice or better yet an apprenticeship or lessons. I'm reading all the books I can but I am itching to pound and grind...I'm sure you makers can understand.
Does anybody need some free help around their forge? I would travel (locally at nights, farther on the weekends). I am very handy with a lot of things and feel that I could learn anything I need to.
If anybody could enlighten me with some information on where to look or what to do, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

Howdy Lions Blood-
There is a maker in Maspeth, Queens- Rick Ludwig- He's been in Blade & KI a couple of times & he recently did a heck of a good job on a custom chute knife for me. He's not really a "smith" (he uses the stock removal method) but he's technically very good (tight tolerances, clean grinds, etc). He's a retired firefighter & a really nice guy. His # is 718-497-5969. I don't know his present schedule, or whether or not he'd be willing to teach, but it's worth a shot. Also- check out the Empire Knife Club- we meet in Brooklyn at the K of C hall on Conklin Ave in Canarsie on the 2nd Wednesday of the month 7:30 PM for a meet & swap. There are a bunch of folks there who may have some answers for you as well. Pop out & see us. That goes for all of you NYC area knife folks! Hope to see you there.
Good Luck!
Mike
